Danaher Corporation Environmental, Health & Safety Manager : North America Field Operations in Ames, Iowa

POSITION SUMMARY:

Reporting to the Hach Global EHS Director, the EHS Manager will have the ability to build cross functional relationships among Hach, Danaher and outside agencies. Develop, implement and maintain leading edge safety programs and policies in NA sales and service organization to ensure regulatory compliance with local, state, and national regulations. Work with the Management Team in driving a Safety Culture which engages associates and improves EHS performance. You will be responsible for supporting Field Operations in the development, implementation, maintenance, monitoring and continuous improvement of Environmental Health and Safety programs, ensuring compliance with Federal, State, and Local Regulatory Requirements. This position will also have additional focus with EHS policies and procedures for Hach functions working from home.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Global EHS Director and other EHS team members on EHS strategy to drive action plans.

  • Develop and manage initiatives to promote a proactive health and safety culture, including processes designed to increase employee involvement, education and recognition by participating in safety meetings, incident investigations, occupational health matters and compliance auditing.

  • Develop, plan, and conduct innovative safety training programs to meet regulatory requirements and exceed corporate safety goals.

  • Coordinate new associate safety orientation training.

  • Review and interpret injury data to identify trends and/or causal factors, such as behavioral factors, incomplete or faulty decision-making or a weakness in existing policies or practices or regulations.

  • Support and train in the investigation of accidents/injuries and monitor the implementation of corrective measures to prevent reoccurrences.

  • Conduct field and site audits/inspections to enforce adherence to federal, state, and county regulatory laws, and Danaher policies governing occupational safety and health compliance. Look to educate associates in unsafe acts or conditions, establish associate/manager relationships, and pro-actively solving potential safety issues.

  • Conduct home visits to assist with work from home ergonomics assessments

  • Oversee the risk assessment process for jobs including where duties, location, and/or equipment changes occur.

  • Assist with the driver safety program and fleet management

  • Act as liaison with OSHA regulatory authorities and for EPA.

  • Review safety of proposed new chemicals, chemical processes, equipment, machinery, new job sites etc.

  • Lead the Field Sales and Service EHS Committee

  • Coordinate chemical SDS database and waste disposal as required.

  • Maintain safety council requirements to allow customer site entry of Hach associates, and coordinate with customer personnel to complete site specific EHS requirements.

  • Lead Kaizen events

OSHA and Workers’ Compensation:

  • Manage workers’ compensation investigation, recordkeeping, completion of OSHA 300 log and internal reporting requirements.

Industrial Hygiene:

  • Responsible for industrial hygiene monitoring and compliance.

  • Manage medical monitoring to meet requirements.

  • Responsible for written program for regulated chemicals.

  • Review SDS’s for potential chemical exposures and monitor and/or implement programs.

  • Responsible for the Respirator and Hearing Conservation Programs.

Emergency Preparedness:

  • Coordinate emergency preparedness plans.

  • Manage emergency contact information.

  • Serve as one of the Company emergency coordinators. Must be available on short notice to respond to emergencies and/or questions, including off-hour shifts.

  • Respond to calls involving external emergency response agencies.

Sustainability

  • Develop program initiatives to meet or exceed Danaher 5-year sustainability goals around energy and waste reduction.

  • Play an active part in Hach’s global sustainability team

Other Non-Essential Functions:

  • Other duties as assigned.

    QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum 5 years Environmental, Safety, and Health experience ideally in a field operations background.

  • Certified Safety Professional (ASP/CSP) or equivalent preferred

  • RCRA – Hazardous Waste Management Training

  • Certified ergonomist preferred and/or experience with the elimination of EHS risks of working from home

  • Working knowledge of OSHA requirements in numerous US States and Canada. (Federal and State)

  • Excellent writing and oral communication skills with the ability to effectively interface with a variety of people at various technical and management levels.

  • Good computer skills (work processing, spreadsheets, graphics, statistical tools, etc.).

  • Proficiency in time, organization, and project management.

  • Able to make independent decisions and work with minimal supervision.

  • Ability to multi-task.

  • Ability to maintain confidential business information.

  • Ability to initiate action to resolve problems and improve processes.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Travel will be required for Field visits, ride along, Benchmarking and Kaizen activities. Estimated 40%.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT TESTING

External hiring into this position is contingent upon the successful completion of a pre-employment drug screen and background check and possible credit history review.

The salary range for this role is $70,800 - $97,300 . This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range and this range is only applicable for jobs to be performed in Colorado. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus pay.
