Do you want to help advance scientific discovery, improving quality of life around the world? We do, too! The Phenomenex Applications Lab is looking for a Biopharmaceutical Applications Scientist. Our Applications Lab occupies an entire building at the Phenomenex World Headquarters, located in the beautiful Southern California coastal city of Torrance.

We are looking for the unique combination of bioanalytical bench scientist and business professional. An individual that enjoys hands-on developing and technical troubleshooting for chromatographic, sample prep and LC-MS methodologies. This position is mostly based “in the lab” but will have direct interactions with the Phenomenex Marketing, R&D and customers. With the support of our other scientists and significant laboratory capabilities, this role has great potential for scientific and career growth.

This role is based at our headquarters in Torrance, CA the second largest suburb of Los Angeles county. Just 19 minutes drive to Los Angeles International Airport nestled along the beautiful Santa Monica Bay.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work together with the biopharmaceutical marketing and sales teams to identify and prioritize application solutions to support the market.

  • Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to commercialize and promote (through brochure, web, technical and seminar content) new products and applications to the scientific community.

  • Ability to research, develop and present solution-oriented separation and sample preparation methods for “hot bioanalytical areas” based on Phenomenex technology and products.

  • Present data to customers via customer visits, seminars/webinars, tradeshow presentations, and technical posters.

  • Train colleagues and customers on new products/applications, as necessary.

  • Operate and maintain HPLC systems and lab equipment.

  • Optimally lead application development projects including proper planning, resource allocation, and completion.

  • Aid in the trouble shooting and technical support of customers and distributors worldwide.

  • Acquire and maintain scientific and competitive knowledge and market segment overview for support of customers, sales and service. Keep up to date with the scientific community.

  • Travel as required (<20%) in the form or customer site visits and scientific meetings or trade shows to meet company objectives.

    Minimum Qualifications:

  • BS or MS Degree in Chemistry or Biochemistry preferred but related fields will be considered.

  • 2+ years of experience in bioanalytical environment with demonstrable familiarity in typical laboratory workflow

  • Ability to function in a chemical laboratory environment

  • Demonstrated experience in protein characterization as well as HPLC and LC-MS method development

    Key Skills & Attributes:

  • Experience with affinity chromatography, IEX, RP, SEC, or other methods, both for purification and for analytical development.

  • Experience with modern HPLC and GC instrumentation, including Agilent and Shimadzu HPLC systems and operating software.

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, execute and manage multiple complex projects.

  • Strong communicator with excellent presentation skills.

  • Ability to work in highly collaborative manner with multiple teams, team members and customers.

  • Ability to focus attention to details and ensure high quality work.

  • Strong ability to think outside the box and apply your skills creatively to solve real-world chromatographic method/application problems.
