Job Title: Molecular Biology Technician III (Quality Control)

Location: Ann Arbor, MIShift: Days (Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm)

Purpose Statement:

The Quality Control Technician serves as a part of the production team testing next-generation sequencing kit reagents in concordance with established procedures and ISO 13485 guidelines. The QC Technician will work both independently and as part of a team.

The ideal candidate for this role must be able to learn quickly, accept input from team members and supervisory staff, and understand NGS technologies. He or she must demonstrate sound scientific and business judgment and resourcefulness and be a self-motivated person who can handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

Essential Function:

  • Perform next-generation sequencing library preparation for quality control according to defined protocols

  • Analyzes data and information for quality, consistency, and accuracy.

  • Communicates with all levels of peers and management to ensure detailed information transfer as well as open communication and teamwork.

  • Adheres to all departmental protocols, rules, contamination controls, and safety procedures.

  • Understands and complies with the ISO13485 requirements.

  • Performs routine maintenance on equipment and participates in laboratory cleanliness and organization.

  • Identifies, in an effective manner, the need for documentation/process changes, process deviations, product non-conformances and other occurrences that can indicate the ineffectiveness of the quality and/or manufacturing systems.

  • Initiates PCOs when necessary for process and instrument changes.

  • Participates in the validation of equipment used and processes performed in the group.

  • Answers questions from other department personnel regarding QC results.

  • Keeps track of inventory in the lab and consults with the Team Lead when parts are needed.

  • Participates in customer and regulatory audits, if needed.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s with 3 years’ industry or academic experience or Master’s degree in life sciences or chemistry

    Professional Experience:

  • Experience with laboratory equipment including multichannel pipettes, repeating pipettes, and centrifuges.

  • Experience handling enzymes, DNA and RNA

  • Familiar with Next Generation Sequencing technologies

  • Experience with computers, Excel and Word

  • Familiarity with ISO 13485 or ability to adhere strictly to defined protocols and procedures
