This position is part of the legal department located in Fargo, ND and will be fully remote. You will be a part of the Danaher Life Science legal department reporting to the Life Science Chief IP Counsel responsible for developing, implementing, and executing an intellectual property strategy to support our rapidly expanding global business. This position will work directly with members of Aldevron’s legal department, business leadership, R&D, and marketing, as well as working in a matrixed organization providing IP insights relevant to strategically important medical genomics initiatives. The Senior IP Counsel will develop an in-depth understanding of the Company’s intellectual property, products and business, and will possess the ability to evaluate and balance both legal and business factors when providing legal advice.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Maintain a solid understanding of Aldevron’s business units, technology and product goals, and challenges in order to establish and implement intellectual property strategies that protect differentiated value in furtherance of strategic imperatives

  • Develop and curate a differentiated and defensible global intellectual property portfolio (including patents, copyrights, trademarks and trade secrets) and manage others who are responsible for executing on the company’s intellectual property strategy

  • Provide IP insights on competitive intelligence and emerging technology to inform strategic planning (leading Aldevron's Innovation Advisory Board meetings)

  • Perform due diligence and freedom to operate analysis for new technologies and products and M&A activity as needed

  • Negotiate, draft and review agreements such as supply agreements, licenses, research agreements, development agreements, confidentiality agreements and material transfer agreements. In addition to managing activities surrounding adversarial proceedings for third party IP, including IP litigation, European Oppositions and U.S. IPRs, in collaboration with corporate counsel and outside counsel

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a biological science, chemistry, pharmacy, or other field relevant to genomic medicine

  • Juris Doctor with excellent academic credentials from an accredited law school and active bar membership in good standing in at least one US jurisdiction 

  • A minimum of 10 years of intellectual property legal experience in-house at a company or a combination of law firm and in-house experience including significant experience crafting in-house IP strategy and portfolio development

  • Hands-on experience in drafting and negotiating IP-related agreements and with US patent prosecution matters in complex patent portfolio

  • 20% travel is required

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • advanced degree in one of these fields is preferred: a biological science, chemistry, pharmacy, or other field relevant to genomic medicine

    The salary range for this role is $180,000 - $250,000. This is the range that we in good faith believe is the range of possible compensation for this role at the time of this posting. We may ultimately pay more or less than the posted range. This range may be modified in the future.

This job is also eligible for bonus/incentive pay.
