The Buyer performs all functions needed to ensure the ideal balance between highly competitive total cost of purchased materials, consistent timely delivery of goods, and high product quality to support the site. The role is directly responsible for securing material availability for production while staying in line with inventory entitlement models for the plant. Based on these responsibilities, Buyer I will be directly engaged in active supplier management to drive outstanding supplier selection, build strategic relationships and negotiate cost savings initiatives while working with cross-functional teams. Strong project management and relationship building skills are critical to this position.

Essential functions

  • Places and maintains purchase orders to support manufacturing and MRO.

  • Maximizes material availability to support production lines; expedites deliveries as necessary to support the internal customer in alignment with inventory entitlement levels.

  • Negotiates with suppliers to ensure high quality, low cost, and favorable terms where possible.

  • Issuance of RFI’s, RFP’s and RFQ’s using standard methodologies to identify best value

  • Understands and appropriately maintains the Kanban system.

  • Supports the management of supplier performance. Seeks continuous improvement opportunities with our suppliers.

  • Assist in resolving all issues involving discrepancies, receiving quality holds, and invoice discrepancies, which may hinder final payment to the supplier.

  • Demonstrates effective problem-solving skills by working independently and engaging appropriate cross functional teams to address vendor/part issues.

  • Maintains open lines of communication with suppliers and internal team members for prompt resolution of quality or delivery issues.

  • Other duties as assigned.

BASIC REQUIREMENTS

  • Bachelor’s degree in related field and 2+ years of relevant experience in procurement and supply chain.

  • Computer proficiency required in Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, and Word.

  • Able to support supplier risk mitigation activities.

  • Detailed oriented and high level of discipline

  • Demonstrated high levels of verbal and written communication, human relationship skills and reasoning ability.

  • Ability to effectively negotiate price, quality, and delivery schedules to maximize cost savings and supplier performance.

  • Excellent skills in multi-tasking, organization and prioritization of multiple projects.

Preferred requirements

  • One (1) year manufacturing and MRP experience – electronics buying experience preferred.

  • Additional experience in planning, manufacturing, quality, or engineering disciplines desired.

  • Full understanding of the legal aspects of purchasing and the ability to negotiate and manage contractual relations.

  • Basic understanding of the Lean concepts and the ability to use supply chain management principles to support continuous improvement.
