Danaher Corporation Sea-Bird Scientific Software Engineer II - Remote in Bellevue, Washington

This position is eligible for a remote work arrangement in which you can work remotely from your home. Several locations have been listed for marketing purposes but only one position is available.

Purpose of position:

Are you passionate about stretching your software skills to multiple fields such as data processing, instrument control and full-stack development? We are looking for a Software Engineer II to join our team. This is a great time to join during a transition between software platforms with the opportunity to drive the innovation of new products as well as to redesign existing systems!

This role will develop and maintain manufacturing and data analysis software for an international climate and oceanographic research program. Come join our team and make a difference!

Essential functions:

  • Develop new data processing tools, including data acquisition, transformation, storage and visualization.

  • Define software architecture to enable new features as well as to support existing ones.

  • Analyze systems and data stores to define whether to keep, migrate or rebuild functionalities.

  • Contribute to the data-processing platform and the customer-facing applications.

  • Participate in Scrum activities through the life of a project, working closely with other teams in engineering, production and science.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science degree with 2 years of direct relevant experience or 5 years of experience without. Relevant experience should be in software development or system integration. Candidates with a background in electrical engineering will also be considered.

  • Experience with several compiled languages, preferably C / C++ and C#.

  • Experience with data schema and data queries using SQL.

  • Experience in system integration, including automation for Web services, Windows and Linux.

Preferred skills:

  • Past work in an Agile team, Scrum preferred.

  • Message passing formats such as XML / XSD, JSON, protobuf or binary formats.

  • Able to identify design patterns and anti-patterns as well as to reuse existing code written by others.

  • Experience with automated unit testing, source control, ticket tracking system, CI/CD pipelines, etc.

  • Exposure to web front-end technology, for instance using TypeScript.

  • Understanding of data manipulation for scientific datasets with Matlab or Python.
