We are currently seeking to hire a Service Lead . Reporting to the Service Supervisor, this role will be responsible for mentoring and coaching Service Technicians I, II, and III while supporting the Service Department goal of delivering impeccable quality on time. The Service Department and this Lead role provides high quality repair and preventive maintenance services for Sea-Bird Scientific equipment.

Our ideal candidate will have a strong focus on continuous improvement, being able to identify systemic problems and implement sustained corrective actions through the coaching and mentoring of a team of 10 technicians. Most importantly, this role will require the aptitude and aspiration to LEAD. Although the technicians in the service team do not directly report to this role, you will use influence and leadership skills!

Essential Functions:

  • Help support a teamwork-oriented culture to ensure that all service to customer- or company-owned equipment is completed correctly according to specification, efficiently, and on time

  • Lead the work of associates in the department, including but not limited to developing priorities and setting work schedules

  • Use lean manufacturing concepts to help plan and execute continuous process improvements

  • Communicate effectively and maintain positive relationships with colleagues and associates

  • Demonstrate understanding of electronic theory and mechanical aptitude to troubleshoot, and/or repair instrumentation and components

  • Understand and teach departmental Key Performance Indicators

  • Develop and maintain Standard Work, daily management routines and goals, and cross-training matrix

  • Perform complex circuit board repairs that may include soldering, wiring, replacement of inoperative electrical and/or mechanical parts

Qualification Requirements:

  • 2-year technical degree or equivalent work experience

  • 5+ years of related work experience

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, Oracle, and Workday

  • Ability to organize and manage time efficiently and effectively

  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to effectively lead a team

  • Excellent attention to detail, and ability to perform precise procedures consistently

  • Demonstrated working level of mechanical aptitude

  • Ability to read and interpret advanced drawings, schematic and wiring diagrams

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of and ability to solder

  • Ability to learn and use scientific and/or plotting software

  • Able to problem solve, brainstorm, and provide corrective action
