As our Entrepreneur-in-Residence (EIR) for Life Sciences and Diagnostic Technologies, you will be responsible to build and grow a business accelerator function from inception within a team that is leading Science and Technology innovation initiatives at Danaher. With your leadership, you will develop the framework, strategy, and standard work processes to accelerate new business opportunities derived from multiple internal (within Danaher OpCos) and external (with our collaborators) novel Intellectual Property (IP). In this function, you will be responsible for all aspects of delivering on the business goals including initial product fit and roadmap, strategic partnerships, go-to-market, and commercialization strategies. In addition, the EIR will also be building and manage the EIR Training Program at Danaher which will support the professional development of our employees seeking to become entrepreneurs. This leader will work cross-functionally with R&D, strategy, BD, legal, and HR to validate new business opportunities
Build the Business Accelerator Function for Life Sciences and Diagnostic Technologies at Danaher
Develop a framework and stand work procedures to successfully drive new concept prototyping and new company creation when needed
Evaluate opportunities to build new value streams by combining multiple concepts from our OpCos, and determine optimal strategies to advance and increase financial returns in such opportunities
Develop Key Performance Indicators and novel metric models to evaluate the success of innovation strategies and return on investment
Develop an engagement and partnership strategy with innovation hubs
Coordinate with key stakeholders to define a short and long-term strategy to enable sustainable innovation in key strategic areas
In collaboration with the legal team, develop IP strategies to ensure robust protection of key technologies being developed at the Center of Excellence
Lead creation of real-time monitoring and analysis of KPIs, developing standard reporting models to aid decision making and overall strategy
Apply the Danaher Business System to develop and improve standard workaround intra- and entrepreneurship technology, business, sales, and/or product domains.
The candidate will need to have outstanding social skills and will need to work collaboratively with others to enhance the impact of innovation and advance IP and new product concepts to commercial readiness. This person will have a demonstrated track record in basic and translational research, in driving innovation initiatives, and in encouraging and supporting talent growth
10+ years of experience in Innovation Strategies/New Concept Creation & Prototyping/Investment/New Venture creation in academia and industry settings
Advanced degree in Science, Engineering or Medicine (Ph.D. or M.D.); MBA a plus
Shown experience in translational and clinical research and innovation in Genomic Medicines, including but not limited to Gene Therapy, CRISPR and Gene Editing technologies, mRNA, and oligonucleotide therapeutics.
Deep understanding of the Life Sciences and Diagnostic tools industry
Proven experience in driving technological due diligence, valuation, and investments
Proven experience in having created new ventures from scratch, including the creation of business plans
Consistent track record in leading, managing, and training teams and driving innovation initiatives for multiple technologies at various stages of development
Understand go-to-market including pricing, marketing, and creating/leveraging of key sales capabilities
Organizational and strategic leadership skills, including strategic vision, executive/marketing communications (written, verbal, and presentation), and planning/forecasting
Experience in translating business needs into a coordinated plan
Experience in developing Intellectual Property strategies, licensing and partnerships
Outstanding conversational, presentation, and written communication skills
Ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and mobilize people across the organization, learn quickly and thrive in a fast-paced environment
Prior experience in designing, implementing, and leading innovation initiatives with multidisciplinary teams of scientists
Has established networks across scientific/biotech/pharma/academic communities
San Francisco, CA or Cambridge, MA strongly preferred
Varies and can be up to 50%; Candidate required to travel without restrictions domestically and internationally as needed.
