The Senior Human Factors Engineer for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for ensuring that system development accounts for human factors principles during product development. This position is part of the Systems Engineering department located in Brea, CA. This position allows for a hybrid work environment consisting of a mix of remote and on-site work. You will be a part of Systems Engineering and report to the Manager of System Engineering responsible for requirements driven development of complex electro-mechanical immunoassay laboratory devices. This role includes:
Apply Human Factors techniques and methodologies towards the design and development of medical devices in compliance with FDA and other regulatory standards and guidelines. (e.g. FDA human Factors guidance, IEC 62366, AAMI HE75).
Plan, collect and translate information about how users interact with products through a variety of techniques such as: direct observation in intended environments, interviews, surveys, and persona development.
Perform workflow analysis and risk analysis activities such as task and user error analysis. Ensure traceability to design mitigations and requirements for risk areas.
Collaborate with teams to define and design detailed user interface design via wireframes and specifications.
Plan and execute usability studies (Formative and Summative), analyze data, document results, and present recommendations to product teams.
Human capabilities and limitations are properly specified in the various product requirements.
BS in Engineering, Human Factors, Usability Engineering, Cognitive/Experimental Psychology, Industrial Design, Engineering Psychology or equivalent technical degree.
At least 4 years of experience in software and hardware development of electro-mechanical medical devices.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio), and Wireframes design and statistical analysis tools.
Ability to apply user-centered design and usability engineering principles to product research, development, and design.
Use proven HFE methodologies and tools; recommend changes to improve the overall usability, user interfaces and ensure safe and reliable user experience.
Advanced degree in Human Factors engineering
Familiar with IEC 62366 and working with the FDA
Experience developing medical devices and working with customers
Well versed in the “human element” and able to empathize with a wide variety of users.
Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete tasks.
