This position supports the Sciex Capillary Electrophoresis Biopharma Business Unit in all aspects of the software development lifecycle. This is a senior role supporting a significant growth business within Sciex. The ideal candidate brings outstanding leadership, teambuilding skills, communications skills, excellent technical expertise and creative thinking to the organization. The role works with the Sr. Director of Capillary Electrophoresis Research and Development.


  • Lead and supervise creation/maintenance of new and existing software products for life science instrumentation and systems.

  • Lead a multi-disciplinary software development team of approximately 10 members.

  • Lead off-site temporary resources necessary to accommodate workload fluctuations and goal achievement.

  • Work with a multi-functional leadership team on defining product development strategy.

  • Serve as a software architect for the development team.

  • Contribute directly to the leadership of projects where necessary.

  • Get results in a fast paced work environment.

  • Guide user experience from a software perspective.

  • Ensure quality and consistency of software deliverables; code, lifecycle documents, etc.


  • Bachelor degree in Computer Science or Electrical Engineering (or related field) with at least 9 years of experience or Master’s degree with at least 7 years of related experience.

  • Ability to develop instrumentation software in C#/.NET/WPF/WCF for the Life Sciences or Medical Devices field.

  • Experience leading and developing Software Engineers (at least 4+ years).

  • Knowledge working with geographically-distributed teams.

  • Knowledge of agile/scrum and traditional (waterfall) software development processes.

  • Comfortable dealing with grey areas and handling the "white space".

  • Experience in Capillary Electrophoresis systems and/or Mass Spectrometry systems is a plus.

  • Knowledge in HTML 5, CSS and JavaScript or developing iOS applications is a plus.

  • Experience with both embedded software and application software is highly desirable.
