Do you want to work in an innovative team in the life science business?

We are currently seeking a Laboratory Operations Manager who will be responsible for the safe and effective running of both manufacturing and R&D laboratories as well as associated support spaces.

You will apply your extensive experience and knowledge of processes, quality management and regulatory compliance relating to the production of cell-based research products to manage the operations of laboratories at Molecular Devices.You will have significant managerial and training duties for other staff working within the laboratory.

What we’ll get you doing:

  • Reagent and consumable management including maintaining stock levels, ordering and receipt of high value consumables in liaison with sourcing and supplier quality teams.

  • Asset management involving scheduling routine equipment maintenance, liaising with third party engineers to deliver effective maintenance and repair schedules and IQ/OQ/PQ activities aligned with laboratory requirements.

  • Assist the Heads of Manufacturing and R&D, or equivalent, in the implementation and development of short, medium, and long-term objectives for the core business needs.

  • Planning to deliver operational excellence to production processes, by monitoring quality standards and ensuring schedules are achieved in liaison with Quality, Manufacturing and R&D managers.

  • Critically review product forecasting, plans for demand and is responsible for initiating raw material procurement to fulfil production schedules and customer orders

  • Participate at a high level to internal and external laboratory audit to support quality objectives.

  • Provide support to develop, review and approve controlled process documents relevant (but not limited) to manufacturing, IQC, risk management and health and safety

  • Provide training to staff within the technical team, including development of training plans, materials and competency assessments

  • Induction and training of new staff to the team

  • Personnel management of technicians within the department; including, but not limited to, annual appraisal, absence management, disciplinary proceedings

  • Deputise for Head of Manufacturing and R&D

The essential requirements of the role include:

  • Experience working in a relevant laboratory-based industry, with several years’ line management experience and direct reports

  • Operational experience within a clean room or aseptic manufacturing environment.

  • Excellent communication and team organization skills.

  • Demonstrate resilience, ability to meet tight deadlines, work with a considerable degree of autonomy to shape the development of the laboratory operations with minimal direction.

  • Accustomed to matrix interactions and managing external relationships with third party suppliers and other stakeholders.

It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:

  • Leading on achieving or maintaining a regulatory status within a laboratory industry, preferably ISO9001

  • Competent use of computers, including Microsoft Office package
