The Development Scientist I for Beckman Coulter Diagnostics is responsible for helping to Develops methods for the production and testing of new products. Develops new product designs, processes, new product scale-up, design/product optimization, technology transfer and process/product validation activities. Develops production procedures and process/product specifications. This individual will perform experimental studies, collect and evaluate the data, and communicate the results towards this goal. In addition, this individual will support both continuous improvement activities and current market products.

You will be a part of the Chemistry Immunoassay R&D team and report to the Manager, Development Science responsible for leading a team of scientists in the development and support of clinical chemistry assays and reagents. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Assist in the development and/or improvement of the Clinical Chemistry assay(s) on automated Clinical Chemistry analyzers.
Participate in planning and executing studies for development, optimization, troubleshooting, verification / validation and technology transfer of Clinical Chemistry assay(s).
Perform routine and moderately complex technical laboratory experiments and procedures including sample / reagent preparation and instrument operation.
Maintain detailed experimental records and laboratory notebooks.
Maintain, troubleshoot defects, and evaluate performance of instruments and laboratory equipment in compliance with relevant procedures.
Participate in protocol writing, data analysis, report writing, failure investigations, and presentation of data at technical meetings.
Complete assignments requiring independent thought, judgment, and initiative
Independently analyze experimental data as well as provide and present conclusions
Complete documentation of studies performed including materials, methods, and conclusions
Assist in developing new techniques and procedures that lead to greater departmental efficiency and continuous improvement
Participate in departmental operations support including material inventory tracking, instrument maintenance, and general laboratory maintenance
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor of Science degree in Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Biochemistry or related science with 0+ years of relevant experience
Relevant experience with laboratory benchwork including buffer preparation, pH meter use, pipette use, spectrophotometer use, mass scale use, etc.
Strong organizational and documentation skills
Ability to be responsible for the creation of simple experimental designs, protocols, plans, and procedures with review. Follow defined plan, protocols, and/or procedures with supervision and contribute to technical reports
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Experience with statistical methodology and design of experiments (DoE)
Training and/or experience in protein characterization
Experience with HPLC/ UPLC/ FPLC instrumentation concepts, operation, and maintenance
