SCIEX is hiring for a dynamic, self-motivated Senior Engineer to join our consumables center-of-excellence located in beautiful Carlsbad, CA. As a core member of our Technical Operations and Sustainment Engineering team you will collaborate with cross-functional teams to incorporate design changes and drive continuous improvement projects for existing products and assist Capillary Electrophoresis (CE) and Mass Spec (MS) consumable manufacturing. Our Senior Engineer implements methods and processes for the production of CE & MS product lines. Assists in driving lean manufacturing initiatives, training of manufacturing associates. In this role, you will work closely with R&D, Quality, Regulatory and Manufacturing team members.


  • Plan, lead and conduct independent work requiring root cause analysis, troubleshooting, and modification of established manufacturing processes triggered by continuous improvement initiatives, non-conformances or supplier change notifications per company procedures and guidelines.

  • Lead complex risk assessments (PFMEA), and verification and validation assessments to ensure the safe and environmentally sound start-up of new or revised processes and assessments of Process Capability (cPK).

  • Understanding in product transfer process: Active participation in design transfer of new product lines to develop knowledge on the manufacturing process. Work with R&D and process development teams to transfer new products from R&D to manufacturing when required.

  • Conduct proof of concept experiments; plans and executes engineering lots.

  • Experience developing & execution of manufacturing processes, IQ/OQ/PQs, writing procedures, and training manufacturing associates.

  • Operating within a developed quality management system and in accordance with ISO9001:2015 requirements)

  • Participate on project teams to complete other project assignments in support of the CE and MS manufacturing lines.

  • Regular oral and written communication relating to progress and performance of work.


  • Experience with chemical manufacturing and micro-fluidic systems.

  • Ability to work independently and to perform assignments with minimal direction, while working collaboratively with cross-functional teams.

  • Ability to explain complex information to others.

  • Ability to solve complex problems; take a new perspective using existing solutions.

  • Ability to do root cause analysis and independent investigations to identify the source of errors in manufacturing.

  • Skilled at training and mentoring manufacturing personnel and lower level technical team members.

  • Skilled at managing the quality of your own work and the work of others.

  • Experience using continuous improvement tools.

  • Experience in chemistry or consumables manufacturing environment.

  • Familiarity with basic statistical analysis techniques / Mini-tab are preferred.

  • Knowledge in CE and MS equipment is a plus.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor’s with five (5) or more years of Life Science industry and/or consumables, sustaining, manufacturing or manufacturing process engineering.

  • Experience developing & executing manufacturing processes, writing procedures, and training manufacturing associates.
