You will be a part of the Chemistry R&D Team and report to the Manager, Development Science responsible for Development support of Chemistry Products manufactured at the Carlsbad, CA site. The Research and Development department is looking for a Staff Development Scientist to lead projects in support of diagnostic products with limited direction. The Staff Development Scientist will drive efforts to troubleshoot internal and external product performance issues and facilitate the implementation of product and process improvements. The Scientist will need to influence multiple peer level team members and train multiple junior scientists and may publish articles in scientific journals to advance the company’s marketing competitiveness or produce patentable work.

In this role, you will have the following opportunities, but are not limited to:

  • Resolves (with limited direction) complex manufacturing discrepancies

  • Exercises judgement within broadly defined practices and policies in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criterion for obtaining results

  • Serves as the Chemistry project lead with knowledge of the development process, design control and basic Regulatory issues

  • Leads training and mentorship of junior scientists; reviews and approves junior scientist’s work

  • Formulates/supervises single project plan and may lead a multi-functional project

The essential requirements of the job include:

  • Degree in Biology or Chemical Science or related science (B.S. with 10+ years relevant experience -OR- M.S. with 8+ years relevant experience -OR- Doctorate with 4+ years relevant experience)

  • Technical background and experience in the manufacture of biologicals or pharmaceuticals

  • Previous experience in Production or Development preferred

  • Ability to work independently, with minimal direction, on a variety of task.

It would be a plus if you also possess:

  • Experience working in an FDA / ISO 13485 regulated environment

  • Experience or knowledge of the manufacture of clinical chemistry reagents

  • Experience with purifications, liquid chromatography (HPLC, UPLC) and antibody conjugations
