Beckman Coulter is a Danaher company, operating in two industries: Diagnostics and Life Sciences.
The incumbent will plan, influence, coordinate and execute on the overall product roadmap strategy, and direct efforts of teams of Product Development scientists to develop and commercialize new immunoassay products, as well as sustain/improve current immunoassay menu, in support of Beckman Coulter’s strategic growth objectives. The successful candidate will have extensive experience and a proven track record leading scientific and technical teams to deliver IVD product development projects on time and on budget, navigating complex FDA and ISO-regulated environments, and in developing and maintaining strong collaborative partnerships with global opinion leaders and business partners.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities(other duties may be assigned): * Influences and executes on strategic direction of critical immunoassay development programs; fosters strong collaboration between disciplines and functional areas; has strong understanding of related disciplines and functional areas, and interactions between them; is able to negotiate on functional requirements to meet overall business objectives * Drives innovation and continuous improvement using the DBS system and tools * Develops and manages talent to achieve current and future business goals for the Development Center * Directs and manages Reagent Development project teams responsible for developing immunoassay reagent products from concept to launch, establishes operational objectives and assignments, and delegates assignments to staff * Defines and ensures consistent and compliant development processes are practiced by team under their leadership to meet the requirements specified under company Design Control policies and procedures * Develops resourcing strategies, operating budgets, tools, and specialized support necessary for cost-effective operations; forecasts staffing requirements across multiple groups to ensure departmental and organizational goals are met * Is responsible for hiring/firing/disciplinary decisions affecting associates and recommends or terminates external resources (contractors) * Communicates group/project status, resolves issues and removes roadblocks by working effectively with senior management, users and staff; escalates issues to senior management and executives as appropriate * Accountable for maintaining safety and compliance to regulatory requirements, policies and procedures and facilitating improvement initiatives that span multiple functions Supervisory Responsibilities: Will directly supervise 8-12 associates and lead a team of 20-30 associates.

- In-depth knowledge of the medical device landscape in general, and business opportunities for in vitro diagnostics (IVD) products and immunoassay technologies in particular
- Experience with product design, development, and commercialization of immunoassays or development of IVD products in a regulated environment, preferably in a company manufacturing diagnostics products for the clinical or clinical research markets
- Demonstrated experience in technology evaluation and hands-on assessment
- Organizational, planning and detailed follow-up skills required; demonstrated ability or track record of producing successful results
- Leadership and motivational talent needed with ability to relate to both highly educated and unskilled team members; ability to zoom in and out depending on situation
- Ability to negotiate, handle and resolve conflicts, and work under pressure
- Ability to understand complex scientific, engineering and business concepts, and communicate these clearly to upper management
- Demonstrated ability to be flexible and resourceful. Excellent written and verbal communication and diplomacy skills required.
Education and Leadership Experience: Bachelor’s Degree with 14 years of experience or Ph.D./M.S. Degree in Immunology, Biotechnology, Biochemistry or a related discipline with a minimum of 12 years relevant experience, AND related experience includes 4 years managing people. Must have demonstrated a successful product development leadership role in regulated diagnostic industry. Experience in immunoassay product development strongly preferred.
