Description
Beckman Coulter is hiring a Systems Engineer for development of the next generation of automated immunoassay test instruments and support of the current product line. This is an exciting and challenging opportunity to be a part of a rapidly growing industry working on the cutting edge of medical diagnostic technologies in a research and development environment.

The primary responsibility for this position is to work with a dedicated staff of Mechanical, Electrical, Software and Chemical engineers to design and develop complex immune diagnostic test systems with high reliability for use in hospitals and reference laboratories worldwide.

Responsibilities: * Work with development teams to design electromechanical test benches and customized scripts for characterization and reliability testing. * Use problem solving processes to detect and track root cause of software and hardware issues. * Drive design changes to improve the reliability of the system and decrease customer down time. * Create block diagrams to visually express subsystem interactions and customer workflows. * Define system and subsystem requirements from user needs as well as software, electrical and mechanical specifications to guide engineering teams through product design. * Develop feasibility, characterization, reliability and verification test plans and perform (bench and system level) testing that cover the expected customer use environment and operational conditions. * Analyze, summarize, present, and interpret experimental data to formulate conclusions and make recommendations. * Facilitate design FMEAs to drive system design quality. * Conduct failure analysis of reliability test subassemblies and components. * Work with Human Factors Engineers to conduct use error analysis and formative user experience testing. * Represent the Systems Engineering team on cross functional teams, working with product manufacturing, technical support, product management, quality systems, regulatory and program managers. * Grow the understanding, capabilities, and usage of the Systems Engineering discipline to enrich the organizations product development capabilities. * Drive continuous process improvement.

Qualification
Required: * Degree in Software, Electrical, Mechanical, Biomedical, or Systems Engineering (BS 5 yrs exp, MS 3 yrs exp). * 3 years of experience working with software controlled devices. * Software coding experience. C# and XML preferred. * Experience in systems engineering or related hardware or software engineering field; preferably from electrical-mechanical, machine design, medical device, automotive, or aerospace industry. * Relevant experience with Mechanical/Electrical/Software/Systems competencies in medical device, instrumentation, or similar electro-mechanical industry. * Previous experience with hands on testing of electromechanical subassemblies using motion control. * Self-starter with a sense of urgency to resolve issues and complete tasks. * Proficient with Microsoft Office applications. * Must possess strong verbal and written communication skills. * Able to work independently and on cross-functional teams with development groups at other facilities as well as take work direction and follow procedures. * Work effectively with team members to develop goals and plans, resolve problems, achieve goals, and coordinate efforts within and across departments. Preferred: * Experience with FMEA (Failure Modes and Effects Analysis). * Experience with requirements management tools (Cognition Cockpit, TFS, Doors) * Experience with reliability tools (Weibull, RGA) * Experience with software management tools (TFS)
