The Associate Product Development Scientist is responsible for designing, characterizing and verifying key technologies on various world-class time of flight mass spectrometers. In this capacity, the incumbent will be part of high-performing, multi-disciplinary project teams participating in all phases of product development from concept to product launch. The individual will solve design problems through collaboration with multiple technical disciplines within the engineering and science community, while following established guidelines, procedures, and design practices.

This position reports to the Manager, Product Development Scientists, and is part of the Research and Development team located in Concord, Ontario, Canada and will be an on-site role.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Define and test novel time-of-flight mass spectrometry hardware to enable customer workflows.

  • Define experimental risks and execute different methodologies to verify or validate different aspects of hardware/software under the guidance of more senior scientists.

  • Develop and test models to support theoretical predictions.

  • Define improvements and innovations for hardware, software, and/or applications related to time-of-flight mass spectrometry.

  • Work closely with multiple groups throughout the product development process, such as Design Engineering, Research, Project Management, Hardware Verification and Validation etc.

The essential requirements of the job include

  • 5+ years Mass Spectrometry experience

  • M.Sc. in a relevant field such as Chemistry, Physic, Biology; Ph.D. strongly preferred.

  • Strong theoretical and practical knowledge of mass spectrometry and related instrumentation including time-of-flight and quadrupole mass spectrometers, and liquid chromatographs.

  • Proven publication record within the field related to hardware design or workflow testing.

  • Candidate must be proactive, results-oriented, self-motivated and willing to be part of a larger team.

  • Candidate must have strong organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication skills

  • Excellent analytical, problem solving and decision-making skills
