We are seeking a Manager of Hardware Build and Integration to enable the design, development and manufacturing of key technologies on world-class, state-of-the-art analytical instruments. The role is part of the Hardware Product Development group. In this capacity, the candidate will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams participating in all stages of product development, including product commercialization and concept realization with our engineering and scientific community.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervises and leads a team of electro-mechanical engineers, technologists and technicians within a Research and Development environment who:

  • Build mass spectrometer testbeds while also collaborating with engineers, scientists and other engineering technologists.

  • Collaborate with engineering and/or research scientists to plan, conduct and document test results.

  • Perform system-level trouble-shooting of test-beds to improve system uptime.

  • Collaborates with the Manufacturing Engineering and Hardware R&D to ensure that manufacturing and design improvements are presented for action before production.

  • Drive continuous improvement opportunities related to on-time-delivery, quality and efficiency as related to test-bed builds.

  • Ensure continuous development of your team in areas related to technical and business process capabilities.

  • Coaches team to be effective and accountable for their work, through adoption of project daily-management and reporting techniques

  • Works with engineering project managers to align on schedules to apply resources consistent with project priorities

Qualifications/requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering (or Canadian-accredited equivalent) with 5+ years’ of demonstrated experience within a high-volume and/or Lean production environment. Preference will be given to applicants who are eligible for PEO accreditation.

  • Demonstrated experience in both technical execution and team leadership/development is a requirement

  • Demonstrated experience in applying process-improvement methodologies is a requirement

  • Experience within an industry enabling the design, development and manufacturing of electro-mechanical systems is an asset
