Job Title: Technician II (Chemical Processing – Reagents Group)

Location: On-Site; Coralville, IA

Purpose statement:

The Technician II (Chemical Processing – Reagents Group) efficiently produces high quality materials for use in IDT’s production labs. This role will also manage IDT waste streams in accordance with applicable regulations.

Please note, this role does require the movement of heavy items and the occasional use of a respirator. Physical evaluations may be required.

Essential Functions:

  • Creates reagents to internal specifications in a timely manner and delivers throughout IDT.

  • Changes and dispenses materials for production, as necessary.

  • Participates in customer and regulatory audits, as necessary.

  • Maintains product, process, instrument, and training records.

  • Follows processes for manufacturing, storage, and transportation of chemicals.

  • Gathers, interprets, and analyzes scale readouts and BCMS scripts. Will be required to troubleshoot issues with quality and delivery as they arise.

  • Participates in the Hazardous Material Spill Response Team.

  • Adheres to current waste disposal (RCRA) and hazardous material DOT regulations and follows hazardous material spill response protocols.

  • Participates in receiving, downloading, and uploading from tanker trucks into IDT's bulk tanks.

  • Monitors inventory.

  • Utilize ERP system to create work orders, transfer material and decrement from the system.


A combination of education and experience equivalent to 4 years.

The following are considered equivalent qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree plus 2 years of applicable experience.

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

  • 4 years of chemical processing experience.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge of basic chemistry

  • Knowledge of safe chemical handling procedures and protocols.

Additional Requirements:

  • Must have valid Driver’s License

Physical Demand Requirements:

  • Very Heavy - Exert 100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 50 lbs. of force frequently

Safety/Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Requirements:

  • Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures

  • Must be able to work around chemicals, and other substances

  • Must be comfortable working in a clean room environment and will be required to wear a gown over street clothes along with hair and shoe covers.

  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment for extended periods of time is required, including but not limited to safety toe footwear, gloves, safety glasses, goggles, and/or face shield, lab coat, chemical resistant apron, sleeves, hood and/or Tyvek suits.

  • Use of a full-face respirator (APR &/or SCBA) is required to perform essential job functions.

The ability to be medically cleared and adhere to IDT’s Respiratory Program is a condition of employment and continued employment. Individuals in these functions will need to be tested, pass, and be fitted for respirator use as part of standard personal-protective equipment
