Job Title: ​Director of Chemical Manufacturing

Location: Coralville, IA

Purpose statement:

The Director of Chemical Manufacturing is responsible for leading all aspects vertical chemistry supply manufacturing processes throughout IDT’s global manufacturing sites while successfully executing the company’s footprint expansion strategy in the areas of chemical storage, mixing and delivery.

You will be a part of the IDT leadership team and report to the operating company’s Vice President Operations .

Essential Functions:

  • Drive harmonization and continuous improvement of vertical chemical supply manufacturing processes throughout IDT’s global manufacturing sites.

  • Execute IDT’s footprint expansion strategy in the areas of chemical storage, mixing and delivery. Manages large projects to ontime and on budget delivery.

  • Drive plant OTD (On time delivery) to >95% customer request date thru improved material availability within assigned value stream. Drive AOS (available on shelf) to 99% for IDT produced intermediates in collaboration w/ IDT’s materials planning organization.

  • Use DBS (Danaher Business system) process tools to ensure sustainable delivery results

  • Identify and coordinate cross-functional and multi-site activities to ensure regulatory and IDT compliance requirements

  • Ensure success of new product development and product transfer to operations throughout the product lifecycle

  • Reduce standard costs through improvements in labor productivity, cycle times, expenses, overhead, scrap and material costs

  • Establish and implement SMART performance objectives of direct reports that support, and align with, the goals and objectives of IDT Operations

  • Establish a multi-year strategic vision with an action plan to track progress

  • Recruit and retain top talent

  • Maintain a cadence for timely feedback to direct/indirect reports

  • Ensure adherence to company policy on performance objectives

  • Provide feedback and support to development plans that support associates’ internal career progression

  • Develop, sustain and adapt training programs that are implemented through standard work practices that enable value streams to meet their business requirements

  • Communicate requirements using a team-based approach to accomplish goals and objectives of the business

  • Verify that all employees conduct business with high integrity and in conformity with company policies

  • Ensure your leadership team and production employees are organized, trained and drive daily management

  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to assure product quality is continuously improved

  • Champion the Danaher Business System (DBS) tools and use internal and external DBS expertise to map improvement plans and drive sustainable improvements

  • Work with managers to suggest and initiate changes to process, machines, or procedures that improve safety, quality, delivery, or productivity.

  • Maximize the performance of value streams by implementing and sustaining lean conversion principles to meet customer requirements

  • Ensure elements of daily management are evident and sustained including root cause analysis for missed metrics

  • Lead and engage employees during Kaizens to drive continuous improvements

  • Maximize productivity and manufacturing efficiency of production

  • Manage cost, quality, schedule, inventory and health, safety & environmental activities for the value stream

  • Ensure the shipment goals, business goals, customer requirements and production plans are achieved and that manufacturing capacity meets the sales plans

  • Gives to team effort by accomplishing related results; keeping business information confidential; coordinating the system security; ensuring data accuracy and integrity; maintaining updated professional and technical knowledge; assuring systems compliance with laws, regulations, and corporate standards; ensuring a safe and healthy environment.

  • Ensure adherence to environmental regulations

  • Work independently with little supervision and direct work priorities of associates

  • Demonstrates and upholds behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values and delivers the Integrated DNA Technologies experience to customers and other business associates.

  • Other duties as assigned.


  • Bachelor’s degree in a science related field with at least 10 years of IDT or equivalent experience.

Professional Experience:

  • 5+ years previous experience performing production tasks within a plant operation environment is required

  • Leadership demonstrated in continuous improvement

Physical Requirements:

Exert 50 -100 lbs. of force occasionally and/or 25-50 lbs. of force frequently
