Software Engineer II
The Software Engineer II, under minimal supervision, uses the tools and methodologies that are required to build and maintain a software codebase at IDT.
Designs, develops, troubleshoots, and debugs JEE web services and maintains JBoss/Wildfly clusters. Help to plan legacy application migrations when necessary.
Evaluates new tools, platforms, and technologies that may be beneficial.
Assist Bioinformatics Scientists with technical assistance with software engineering related concerns.
Applies knowledge of computer science to solve domain problems with occasional guidance.
Plans details required for the execution of assigned work, under moderate to minimal oversight.
Analyzes application logs and testing output, reports results, and plans the next steps.
Utilizes mathematical and statistical analysis, and other software aids as needed.
Operates and maintains software development tools while keeping abreast of promising tool advancements.
Maintains accurate and detailed records of work using version control tools and other documentation artifacts.
Assists in the preparation of technical reports for internal use.
Assist in filing invention disclosures and writing manuscripts for publication.
Interacts with and assists other members of the R&D team as needed to meet research objectives.
Interact with other IDT departments and IDT customers to assist with customer service/technical support and to advance collaborative research projects as directed.
Presents information at group meetings as directed.
Introduces new techniques that have not previously been used at IDT.
Supports existing software at IDT.
Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.
Performs other duties as may be assigned.
Bachelor’s degree (in Engineering or other related fields) with three or more years of experience in bioinformatics, software engineering, or other scientific discipline required
Master’s degree (in Bioinformatics, Computer Science or other related fields) preferred
- Proficiency in a variety of PC software programs with a strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office required
Other Job Qualifications:
Ability to train other existing codebases.
Understanding of multiple styles of coding (scripting, OO, functional).
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Ability to multitask and maintain several projects at one time.
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to communicate with peers and all levels of management.
Exert up to 20 lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to 10 lbs. of force frequently
