Job Title: Support Software Developer II

Location: Coralville, IA

Purpose Statement:

The Support Software Developer II is responsible for developing and maintaining internal software utilized in the process of synthesizing DNA as well as software required for the use with some third-party machines. Duties include definition of requirements; business analysis; development, testing, implementation and support of applications designed to benefit the organization, its’ customers and other business partners.

Essential Functions:

  • Performs and maintains support and maintenance of existing applications, refactoring as needed to match current requirements in the simplest way possible

  • Works closely and communicates effectively with the customer to design software that closely fits their needs

  • Provides documentation and/or descriptions for designs and projects as needed

  • Inspects and troubleshoots complex systems, benchmarks and improves system performance on engineered systems and equipment.

  • Keeps development manager informed about the status of projects and any problems or issues related to the projects

  • Identifies optimal processes and opportunities for the improvement with an aim to improving department operations

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Position Specific Duties/Essential Functions:

  • Works closely with Design Engineering to provide support in the design and functionality of new and existing processing equipment.

  • Support application interfaces that promote the collection and dispersing of machine/production information to improve the performance of IDT and third-party equipment.

  • Support new equipment application installation.

  • Handles support inquiries and escalates as necessary.

  • Mentors other individuals within the department on designing applications through code and design reviews.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience required; B.A. or B.S. in Computer Science, Engineering or other STEM-related fields preferred.

Professional Experience:

  • Three years of experience in C#, C, C++; OR two plus years PLC programming experience.

Position Specific Experience/Skills:

  • Experience in Beckhoff ADS communication protocol a plus.

  • SQL/Access experience a plus.

  • Experience in serial application interface communication protocol a plus.

  • Ability to work with third party SDK’s to design communication protocol as required per machine required.

Other Job Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop software in a team environment. Including: Iterative development, functional reviews, code reviews, group development sessions, version control, unit and integration testing, etc.

  • Ability to consistently manage multiple priorities and solve problems using critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to effectively communicate, both orally and in writing, to customers and colleagues.
