Pall Corporation is seeking a creative and ambitious Principal Product Development Engineer with Additive Manufacturing experience to develop innovative products that address urgent and pervasive customer needs. The Principal Product Development Engineer, Additive Manufacturing will develop innovative products that address urgent and pervasive customer needs, while fully exploiting the capabilities of additive manufacturing technologies and creating a differentiating advantage for Pall Industrial. Deeply knowledgeable in additive technologies and in Pall Industrial product portfolio, they will identify and implement process and design improvements necessary to advance the quality, cost, lead time and performance of the additive products. They will provide coaching and mentoring to the junior team members.
Your Role as Principal Product Development Engineer:
Lead product and application development in collaboration with the business unit teams ranging from assessing the viability of product concepts for AM to optimizing the concepts to exploit the full potential of AM to realize cost, quality, lead time, and/or product performance benefits.
Execute the design, analysis, and optimization of additive manufacturing product concepts that differentiate Pall’s offerings relative to the competition.
Utilize product development experience, additive know-how, and out-of-the box thinking to deliver clean sheet product concepts that fully exploit the power of additive as well as address the limitations.
Partner with the business unit teams in ensuring that the 3D printed parts meet or exceed the functional requirements of the end customers.
Collaborate with and support the process scale-up/technology transfer team to achieve product realization in operations.
As Design Authority, responsible for the integrity and suitability of the design and for leading the lifecycle management of the additive products, including design reviews, verification, and qualification activities.
Partner with Engineering Systems/PLM/IT resources to archive, secure, and manage engineering and product definition documents in accordance with Pall Industrial PLM strategy.
Provide engineering support and collaborate with strategic sourcing to drive the conversion and optimization of low volume/complex geometry metal and polymer components from traditional suppliers to additive.
Support the business unit teams in the qualification/ certification by external agencies as appropriate.
Lead the development and delivery of virtual and hands-on training of AM concepts, technologies, applications, and DfAM (design for additive manufacturing) principles.
Lead the documentation and dissemination of design rules and guidelines to the product engineering teams across Pall Industrial.
Education and Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (e.g., Mechanical, Metallurgical Engineering, Material Science, Chemical Engineering) from an accredited college or university. Prefer Master’s degree.
8-10 years of industry experience, preferably in a product development capacity.
5+ years’ experience with a range of additive manufacturing technologies such as Binder Jetting, Laser Powder Bed Fusion, FDM, SLA, and SLS.
Must have hands-on experience with 3D CAD, engineering drawings, GD&T, and design optimization software.
Must have a strong and innovative engineering acumen and the technical capability to leverage the capabilities of additive manufacturing to develop novel product designs.
Experience with additive process simulation software.
Working knowledge of post processing/surface modification technologies.
Working knowledge of printable materials, properties, and characterization methods.
Track record of success in developing new technologies and commercializing products/applications.
Previous experience leading product development projects using Stage-Gate processes from initial concept to commercial launch.
Experience building relationships with customers and engineering teams to innovate and deliver novel products.
Self-starter with keen eye towards problem solving and driving solutions.
Excellent facilitation and collaboration skills.
Ability to coach and mentor junior team members.
Maintains knowledge of advancements in additive manufacturing and related domains.
