The Sr. AM Materials Scientist/engineer will work closely with the Additive Manufacturing inorganic media R&D teams for the development of new products and additive processes. The position will make inorganic materials and material interaction decisions that enable the NPD team to quickly and efficiently tailor project plans to meet project objectives.
Essential Job Functions
Domain expert for inorganic materials development including but not limited to:
Firing process development for ceramic based media
Binder development for metal and/or ceramic FDM
Sintering process development for stainless steel media- both powder and fiber based
Carbon reduction process to take parts from green to fired state
Lead small team of engineers and technicians to achieve specific project work
Perform chemical analysis of incoming and processed materials
Provide recommendation for alloy and material selections based on application needs
Lead qualification of materials/processes for new products and applications
Perform failure analysis of inorganic materials
Responsible for planning project work and reporting progress against all benchmarks
Ability to understand materials interactions during processing as well as in field service in a wide range of applications
BS in Material Science, Inorganic Chemistry, Metallurgy, or similar field with 7+ years of related industry experience in new product development.
MS with 5-7 years of related industry experience in new product development.
PhD with 3-5 years of related industry experience in new product development.
Experience with sintering stainless steel or high temperature corrosion resistant alloys
Solid understanding of inorganic materials science, chemistry, and related technology
Prior experience with Additive Manufactured products Experience in one of the following areas:
Metal injection molding
Ceramic injection molding
