GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Senior Manager Production (Media Manufacturing) is responsible for one or more production units, totaling 25-40 people. Provides leadership, organization, and technical support as needed. Directs work of both exempt and non-exempt roles, including two managers and professional Chemists. Will work independently, under guidance from Director of Operations. This position is located onsite in Torrance, CA. Relocation Assistance may be available.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Oversee and optimize production processes; meet and exceed objectives for efficiency, throughput, and on-time delivery. Track and publish metrics as required. Create a positive work environment for all staff so that they feel motivated and empowered to meet goals and objectives and are appropriately recognized for their contributions. Train and develop people leaders in function. Make decisions and recommendations about equipment use, maintenance, modification, and procurement. Identify technical, process or operational issues and provide solutions. With HR and Safety, develop and implement programs to improve overall area safety. Coordinate, set up, and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for all production operations. Assure that there is adequate cross-training to support varied operations. With QC/QA, ensure adherence to prescribed procedures, achieving first pass quality results which meet or exceed objectives. Performs investigation and implements corrective actions within CAPA system. Implement lean manufacturing principles in area(s) of responsibility. Develop programs to improve performance for key metrics for area (s). Evaluate competencies of subordinates and provide leadership and development as required to achieve objects. Review performance formally on an annual basis. Create and adjust production and staff schedules as needed to meet objectives. Ensure proper adherence to all Phenomenex policies, as regards Safety, Quality, and Time/Attendance. Act as Project Manager as needed for areas of responsibility. Partner with R&D and Marketing to transition new products to Production. Perform analyses as needed, including capacity, staffing, product costs, and ROI. Present results to cross-functional groups.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:

  • 5-7 years of experience in Manufacturing Management with 2-3 years people leadership.

  • 5 years of experience leading a process chemistry Manufacturing operation or similar

  • Bachelor’s Degree required, Chemical Engineering or Chemistry preferred.

  • Requires analytical thinking and strong knowledge on Lean Manufacturing practices.

  • Sound judgment and reasoning

  • Provides leadership and able to motivate, direct and lead others.

  • Strong organizational skill, plans and assigns resources in a detailed fashion

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Supervisors are responsible for maintaining an environment that is free from discrimination, intimidation, coercion or harassment, including sexual harassment. Work is performed primarily indoors in an office, laboratory, or warehouse setting; wet/humid, and dry/arid conditions. The noise level in the work environment is typically low to moderate; higher levels may be prevalent in laboratories or warehouse settings. While performing the duties of this position, the employee may be required to travel.

Supervisors are responsible for the safety of their employees by creating and maintaining a safe work environment. New employees must be provided with safety instruction during the first two (2) weeks of employment and receive, as applicable, annual refresher safety training. Supervisors must operate equipment safely and report any unsafe work conditions or practices to their Management and the Safety Manager. Supervisors must insure that employees work in a safe manner. If there is an accident or near miss, they must submit a Supervisor's Incident Investigation Report to the Safety Manager and Human Resources Department within 24 hours of notification.
