The Operations Supervisor will provide leadership and support for the entire value stream ensuring operational objectives and measurements are achieved. This role will be responsible for helping with the implementation of the right processes across the department by utilizing continuous improvement and lean manufacturing concepts. This position requires project management skills, as well as effective communication and direction concerning value stream performance and opportunities for improvement. To succeed in this role, the incumbent should be a good problem solver with sharp, analytical thinking.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Ensure that the department meets both external and internal customer requirements

  • Supervise hourly personnel to achieve production lead time while maintaining high quality at low costs

  • Promoting a continual learning environment, where cross-training and employee involvement/empowerment is valued

  • Develop, sustain, and adapt training programs that are implemented through standard work practices that enable Value Streams to meet their respective business requirements.

  • Create and maintain On-The-Job (OTJ) documentation; engage in audits of OTJs to ensure properly assessment

  • Collaborate with business unit leadership to develop a plan and execution strategy for improving the safety, quality, delivery, inventory, and productivity (SQDIP) performance of the assigned Value Streams.

  • Report necessary countermeasures and problem-solving data to management in the Daily Management walk-through and reviews

  • Research, develop, coordinate, plan, and facilitate improvement events using lean tools such as Value Stream Mapping, Kaizen, and general problem-solving techniques to support and enable the business strategy.

  • Support Lean Manufacturing (DBS) initiatives, and champion projects which increase the overall effectiveness of the manufacturing operation.

  • Be able to ensure that daily management data is regularly updated with a clear pareto of major root causes to identify countermeasures.

  • Collaborate with Operations Management to support the daily supervisory activities and the evaluation of Value Stream Team Members in terms of performance, qualification, and teaming skills.

  • Support the development of project proposals, including capital and tooling requests that are required by the Value Stream to meet their business requirements.

  • Maintain an adequate workforce, make recommendations on hiring, terminations, relocations/transfers training schedules, advancements, suggestions, and disciplinary requirements

  • Coordinate staffing requirements and cross-training needed to assure that required personnel capacities are available to meet the required workloads

  • Apply learned DBS tools to all aspects of the Value Stream

  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate degree required, Bachelor’s degree in Operations Management, Business Administration or a related field preferred.

  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience in a leadership role managing hourly employees (minimum of 15 direct reports)

  • Minimum of four (4) years of manufacturing experience

  • Ability to drive down to true root cause and articulate problem-solving ability

  • Can identify temporary countermeasures for quick resolution as well as identify permanent countermeasures to address process gaps. Understanding of unit operations, process equipment, and technology

  • Experience with manufacturing planning/scheduling, and lean manufacturing concepts

  • Knowledge of business systems, engineering, manufacturing, and financial systems
