We are seeking a PhD Candidate to join our R&D team and contribute to the development of our product pipeline.

Description of the Role:

The successful candidate will lead a research project focused on the development of label-free analysis methods for determining MSC function through advanced co-culture assay systems. This project will involve the isolation, expansion and characterisation of tissue-derived stem cells and blood derived immune cells. Duties will include extraction of cells from human or animal tissues, and the application of an array of characterisation protocols, including flow cytometry, molecular analysis, morphological analysis and other bioassays. Experience in mesenchymal stromal cell characterisation techniques is essential, as is a thorough understanding and practical knowledge of cell and tissue histology and immunocytochemistry.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Works directly with Industry mentor and wider CellAi R&D team, reporting to the Head of Science – Cell Therapy, to support the design and execution of experiments to achieve specific project goals.

  • Carry out assays for the characterisation of cell populations involving several technical approaches to include Flow cytometry, molecular analysis, immunofluorescence and morphological analysis through high content imaging.

  • Troubleshoots assays/instruments for project related method development.

  • Maintains accurate and contemporaneous recording of all project related experiments.

  • Develop a detailed understanding of Cell Therapy product potency assays and support the company’s CellAi team in development of key applications for cell product characterisation.

  • Present at internal company meetings.

Qualification Required:

  • MSc or equivalent degree in Cell Therapy manufacturing/Regenerative Medicine or similar with at least 2-years hands-on experience working with microscopy techniques and mammalian cells (essential).

  • Strong research experience in cell biology, MSC cell culture (essential) and molecular biology techniques.

  • Hands-on experience in microscopy and cell imaging systems is essential.

Job location:

This is a lab-based role whereby you would be required on site every working day unless discussed previously with your line manager. The role will be based in Galway, Ireland.
