Danaher Corporation Senior Drupal Developer in Dublin, Ireland

As part of the Global Digital Experience team, the Sr. Digital Experience & Web Architect is a key technical partner who drives the implementation of improvements to user experience on our core website, powered by Drupal. You work in the intersection of two exciting worlds – user experience and web development – to bring concepts to life on the web. You will need to understand both customer and technology in order to ensure that we are increasing the usability, usefulness, and desirability of our digital customer/user interactions.

Some of the exciting things you’ll be doing:

  • Your primary focus is delivering rich end-to-end digital user experiences by collaborating with product owners, marketing managers, UX designers, and other developers. Through front-end development, you’ll translate design ideas and prototypes into a fully functioning product on the web. But, you’ll also go beyond this in thinking about how technical architecture should help to facilitate the best possible digital user experience.

  • Analyze functional and user experience requirements in order to identify enhancements for the Drupal product roadmap. Execute on these enhancements through modifications to existing features & capabilities, as well as the extension our existing feature set through third-party and custom module development.

  • You’ll utilize front-end frameworks and theming techniques to develop full web pages that are in line with our global style guide and follow best UX practices.

  • In this role, you will also drive technical excellence in our content management system (Drupal) for both developers and content admin users, helping them leverage the core and extensible features of the system to continuously improve the digital customer experience on the web.

  • While the visual and interaction layers that the end-user sees are your wheelhouse, you are more than capable for rolling up your sleeves and diving into the deeper levels of both client and server-side development. This includes updates to the core Drupal platform, PHP & module changes, and the integration with our E-Commerce system (i.e. AJAX, webservices, etc.)

  • Ensure and enforce adherence to robust development practices. This means leading and facilitating code reviews with the rest of the team, as well as working to continuously improve development workflows (i.e. branch management, release management, etc.)

Minimum requirements:

  • 5-10 years’ experience developing, deploying, and supporting both static web sites and web content management systems. This includes system configuration, coding, testing and post-launch support.

  • 4-6 years’ experience in web development with Drupal, including strong knowledge of Drupal 8 / 9, Twig, Composer, and Drush, as well as working knowledge of PHP and module customization.

  • Highly proficient in HTML5, CSS3, and JavaScript: you understand that the front-end is one of the biggest factors which can ensure an optimal digital customer experience.

  • Strong knowledge of SCSS (or similar CSS preprocessor) and common front-end frameworks such as Bootstrap, Tailwind, Materialize, etc.

  • Agility and initiative to learn new things is a must-have – whether that’s a new framework, extending the CMS via modules, or incorporating new user research insights into your solutions.

  • We are a global company. Strong communication skills in working with vendors and offshore teams, as well as flexibility in schedule and workload management, are key to success.

  • Strong background with Git and version control – including remote repository management providers such as GitLab or GitHub.

  • We move fast and you’ll be juggling lots of priorities. You’ll need solid project management skills and be comfortable working in both Scrum and Kanban approaches to get the job done. Experience with JIRA, Confluence, Wrike, etc. wouldn’t hurt either.

Preferred skills/experience (also what you’re interested in learning!):

  • If you have experience using JS frameworks/libraries such as React, Angular, or Vue to implement exceptional user interfaces (think exceptionally fast & sleek websites and progressive web apps), we’d love to talk to you.

  • Proficiency in object-oriented PHP is highly desired, particularly in the context of developing content management systems (Drupal, TYPO3, Joomla, WordPress, Magento, etc.).

  • Ideally, you’ll have a strong background in developing microservices-based architectures with technologies like REST and GraphQL.

  • Database experience in MySQL, MariaDB, and/or Postgres.

  • Besides Drupal, any additional content management experience (either as a developer or end-user) is a benefit in helping think about how to drive CMS-development as a product.

  • Agile/scrum certification and/or relevant experience in grooming a product backlog or serving as a scrum master, product owner, or development team lead is also desired.

  • Bonus points for knowledge working with any of the following:

  • Dev environment tools such as Docker, DDEV, and/or Lando

  • Web analytics tools like Google Analytics / Google Tag Manager, Adobe Analytics, Heap, Mixpanel, etc.

  • Marketing automation tools such as Pardot, Marketo, Eloqua

  • E-commerce platforms such as Shopify, Magento, Drupal Commerce, Woo Commerce, etc.)

  • As a seasoned developer, you bring a wealth of knowledge from prior projects that allow you to analyze, troubleshoot, and solve technical problems. But you have the initiative to push for solving user experience issues which might be “technically correct”.
