Position Objective

  • Responsible for providing support to the IP Counsels of Pall Life Sciences. This position will be responsible for all aspects of IP support, from the intake and docketing of Invention Disclosures, coordinating monthly Invention Disclosure presentations, coordinating and reporting status of patent application projects in a stage gate system, docketing of patent and trademark applications across multiple jurisdictions, diary management, inventor re-numeration, coordinating annual IP reviews and annuities, and completing formality-based actions.

Job Functions:

  • Format and finalize US Trademark documents and submit them to the USPTO.

  • Update Pall Life Sciences’ IP management database, FIP, with local related actions, creating and closing tasks and ensuring accurate up to date reports.

  • Work with Global IP management team actively promoting simplification of processes to increase efficiency, lower costs and minimize risk for all patent formality activities.

  • Assist counsels as requirement emerges, such as collecting and collating data, translating documents, etc.

  • Collaborate with paralegal colleagues across Danaher OpCo’s to provide, optimize, and communicate standard methodologies and solutions to local based queries on the FIP platform.

  • Prepare reports as required by the IP counsels and the Pall Life Sciences executive leadership team.

  • Management of local mailbox ensuring outside counsel correspondence is docketed and advised to IP counsel.

  • Support Pall’s IP portfolio with workstreams including but not limited to, compiling schedules of patents from Pall's patent database, recording name changes and patent assignments at patent offices, re-assignment of newly acquired patent dockets and working with third party counterparts to transfer out-going patent dockets.

  • Handle the docket(s) of the IP Counsels and Patent Agent(s).

  • Work with preferred providers of patent legal services as required to ensure that filings and maintenance fees are made by the required filing dates and deadlines.

  • Assist with special IP reports to address local Business Unit needs.

  • Undertake periodic reviews to quality review and validate data within the FIP tool ensuring data integrity is maintained.

Minimum Qualifications:

General knowledge of laws, regulations, practices, and procedures relating to procurement of patents and trademarks in the US and in countries other than the US, as well as knowledge of and experience using the USPTO’s PAIR system and EFS (electronic filing system) to file US trademark applications.

Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university, and 1 to 3 years of IP work experience in a law firm or in-house legal department.

Position Competencies:

  • Knowledge of an IP management database, such as FIP.

  • Ability to work optimally both individually and as a member of a team.

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, both written and oral.

  • Basic knowledge of patent procedures of foreign Patent Offices especially in EP, JP and China.

  • Ability to recognize and avoid detrimental mistakes by understanding the impact and importance of IP rights.

  • Ability to accurately follow sophisticated procedures and be proactive to improve and simplify existing processes.

  • Ability to work with and maintain confidential information.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment and execute against deliverables under tight deadlines and going for priorities.

  • Strong time leadership skills. Must be able to prioritise multiple projects simultaneously in a fast- paced environment.

  • Adaptable and open to change, process oriented, global mindset.

  • Flexible and innovative approach to problem solving.

  • Strong solid understanding of Microsoft Office 360 products.

  • Experience communicating with clients, such as outside counsel and members of a business team at a variety of levels of management, as well as virtual and / or global teams.

  • Experience handling concurrent projects from initiation to completion.
