The Senior Manufacturing/Process Engineer is responsible for developing the manufacturing line, planning for scale up to meet throughput requirements, selecting the equipment that will satisfy those requirements, validating the equipment, generating risk management documents, and coordinating with the manufacturing engineering group.
This position belongs to Microbiology Operating Company nested within Beckman Coulter and is located in West Sacramento, CA. At Microbiology as one of the world’s leading ID/AST companies, our vision is to ensure that every patient has access to the right antibiotic treatment at the right time. You will be an integral part of the New Product Development Operations team and report to the R&D Manager.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Develop new process workflows, write up functional requirements for new equipment including throughput, minimum quality levels, #of FTEs needed to run equipment, cost of consumables, cost of maintenance.
Identify candidate vendors, reviews bids, issues recommendations on equipment selection. Drafts CAR & financial justification for capital request.
Work with Manufacturing Engineering group for integration of new processes with existing processes, impact on existing operations, Facilities requirements and modifications.
Manage vendors during equipment build, commissioning, FAT, SAT, ECOs.
Maintain technical knowledge of equipment, supports maintenance and operations in the long-term to maintain equipment performance and improve it as identified.
The essential requirements of the job include:
Automation engineering experience, with microtiter plate processing desirable.
Experience with equipment validation, including writing and executing protocols, and risk management outputs.
Ability to write Work Instructions (SOIs), PMs, troubleshooting guides, train operators & maintenance staff
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with 5+years of proven experience, a Master’s degree in Engineering with 3+ years of experience, or a Doctoral degree in Engineering with 0-2 years of experience.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Working with microtiter plates
Lean manufacturing, six sigma, or related expertise
Coordinating a project with broad cross-functional input
