GENERAL DESCRIPTION

The Maintenance Technician assists all members of Maintenance personnel and also requires initial and continuing training on hazardous waste identification and operational procedures as duties may involve the generation or management of hazardous materials and waste.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintenance and repair of all types of specialized equipment specific to plant operations.

  • Compliance with company safety policies including safe operation of equipment, PPE usage, hand tool safety, lock-out-tag-out, and proper storage of tools, etc. and compliance with good housekeeping policies.

  • Maintain equipment according to work instructions or preventive maintenance tasks.

  • Suggest improvements and support kaizen and DBS activities

  • Tote maintenance and repair, to include tote washing, parts replacement, history recordkeeping, and tote reconditioning.

  • Accurately perform required computer data entry; Attention to detail is a critical function.

  • Report complicated equipment malfunctions to supervision.

  • Participate in team meetings, which include planning daily work and resource utilization, problem solving, project work, etc.

  • Maintain visual management office supplies; clean and organized work area.

  • Required to cross-train on other equipment, crafts, or other areas as needed.

  • Heavy lifting and respirator clearance required.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Participate in corrective and preventative action practices as it relates to product quality, plant safety, environmental and DOT compliance

  • Identification and proper handling of hazardous waste

  • Understand and execute policies and procedures that emphasize ChemTreat product quality and plant safety.

  • Possess a thorough knowledge of departmental practices and procedures.

  • Overtime as required.

  • Other duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Technical, Analytical skills and business knowledge

  • High Attention to Detail.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

  • High school diploma.

  • Working knowledge of valve and pump function and plant operations.

  • Experience in inventory management, forklift operation, and computer data entry.

  • Working knowledge of basic mathematics, DOT regulations, and common tools.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

  • Constantly required to sit and occasionally required to walk, stand, climb (includes stairs), balance, stoop, bend, kneel, crouch or crawl, and talk, hear, and smell

  • Able to climb ladders and work on roofs and tanks greater than 10 feet in height of the ground

  • Constantly using hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, and computer keyboards.

  • Routinely required to reach with hands and arms, squat, turn/twist, or reach, lift, carry, push, or pull up to 75 pounds

  • Frequently operate a forklift and other heavy equipment used in maintenance and construction as well as operate power tools stationary and portable

  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus

WORKING CONDITIONS & ENVIRONMENT

  • This is a specialty chemical blending and packaging facility where hazardous materials are present.

  • Will be subjected to moving mechanical parts, electrical currents, vibrations, fumes, odors, dusts, gases, chemicals, oils, extreme temperatures and work space restrictions.

  • Required to wear the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) which may include: eye, hearing and respiratory protection, protective apron, steel toe shoes, gloves, hard hats, or face shields.

  • The noise level in the work environment is occasionally loud.

  • Contact lenses may not be allowed in some areas.
