Staff Accountant

Reports to: Assistant Controller

Employment Status: Exempt

Location: Evanston, IL or Coralville, IA - onsite/offsite flexibility. 1day/week expected in-office.

Purpose statement:

​The Staff Accountant is responsible for providing management with complete, accurate and timely financial information. This is accomplished by maintaining proper accounting records, researching/analyzing account reconciliations and individual transactions, and implementing controls and procedures in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and internal controls over financial reporting (ICFR). This position will assist in managing the inter/intracompany reconciliations and various accruals as part of the month end close process. Additionally, this position will assist in various tax related assignments and projects mainly related to corporate income tax areas.

Essential Functions:

  • Contributes to the integrity of the trial balance by preparing general ledger entries based on independently verifiable documentation; maintains the supporting records and files

  • Performs month-end close duties as assigned accurately and on time, including the analysis of accounts and financial statement variances as well as the preparation of account reconciliations, and standard and non-recurring journal entries in accordance with US GAAP

  • Contributes to the maintenance, balancing, aging and reconciliation of the general ledger to sub-ledgers and subsidiary ledgers

  • Responds to management inquiries by researching and interpreting data

  • Maintains knowledge of industry accounting practices and regulatory requirements pertaining to the Company

  • Develops a strong working knowledge of, and become an effective user and resource for, the SAP ERP system

  • Responsible for reviewing and maintaining a log of all contracts and records submitted for finance review. Familiar with accounting considerations to assess financial implications and ensure proper approvals are received.

  • Assists the Financial Reporting team members for inter/intracompany and consolidations procedures

  • Contributes to the monthly close process for corporate income taxes and indirect taxes, including account reconciliations, accruals, and various other month end procedures and reporting requirements

  • Assists in performing transfer pricing analysis on a quarterly basis

  • Supports Corporate Tax administratively to the extent needed

  • Demonstrates behavior consistent with the Integrated DNA Technologies Core Values

  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required

  • CPA highly preferred

Professional Experience:

  • Minimum of two years of professional accounting experience required

  • Strong knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), experience with Corporate Income Taxes preferred

  • Working knowledge of SAP for General Ledger is preferred

  • Proficiency in a variety of PC software programs with strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office required

  • Prior experience with internal controls over financial reporting (SOX) preferred

  • Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to draft reports, business correspondence, policies, etc.

  • Demonstrated knowledge of MS Office skills, especially Word and Excel

Physical Requirements:

Exert up to 20lbs. of force occasionally and/or up to a minimal amount frequently

Visual Acuity:

  • Ability to prepare and read written documentation; use of computer.
