Director, mRNA Sciences

This position can be remotely based.

Job Summary:

The Director, mRNA Sciences will lead development of new technologies and optimization of existing processes around the mRNA platform. This position will act as the mRNA science lead for all mRNA related projects, will be responsible for leading a scientific team, and will serve as the technical lead for RNA manufacturing.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead research and development of new mRNA services and technologies

  • Be the technical/scientific lead for all RNA manufacturing teams

  • Develop DOE for process development plans for mRNA

  • Create project summary reports and presenting findings and recommendations to the management.

  • Ensure that the all production and documentation associated with mRNA manufacture are completed by the team, and any assigned development assistance with other departments

  • Plan inventory requisitions and capex requirements

  • Lead drafting of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and production records or master batch records as required

  • Work with the R&D team to research and assess process/technology improvements

  • Lead internal tech transfer of the developed processes to the technical operations team

  • Lead client process transfer

  • Communicate the status of operations, process issues, and safety and maintenance issues to appropriate area management

  • Work with technical operations to ensure smooth transition for research grade projects into GMP.

    Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in biochemistry or related scientific field, preferred.

  • Minimum 10 years of experience working in a molecular biology, biochemistry or microbiology laboratory environment.

  • Minimum of 5 years experience in leading RNA manufacture, process development and optimization, experimental design, data analysis and data and concept presentation.

  • Knowledge of biochemical engineering principles, including scale-up and process optimization

  • Expertise In vitro transcription and RNA purification

  • Expertise in bacterial and Mammalian culture

  • Proven track record of creative scientific accomplishment as evidenced by publication and/or patent record

Physical Requirements:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee is regularly required to see, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, bend, lift up to 50 pounds, and use arms, hands and fingers for various activities. This position may stand or remain sedentary for long periods of time. This position routinely works with large pieces of equipment.
