The Sr Sustaining Engineer - Microbiology is primarily responsible for Value Engineering (VAVE) and product/component availability to sustain production OTD.
At Microbiology, our vision is to ensure we that every patient has access to the right antibiotic at the right time as one of the top tier ID/AST companies. This position reports to the Microbiology Operating Company nested within Beckman Coulter, located in West Sacramento. However, this position is located at our Instrument Manufacturing center of excellence in Miami, FL. You will be an integral part of the R&D team and report to the Sr Manager, Hardware Development for Microbiology.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
Identify, evaluate, analyze, and make recommendations on products, designs, and cost improvements to improve the competitive position of the company. Recognizes project dependencies and optimizes resources. Own Value Engineering Project Funnel.
Prepare, execute, and author reports on engineering studies.
Prepare or revise manufacturing operating procedures and specifications to accommodate new product line implementation or update current manufacturing process.
Write machine and tooling requirements and specifications for capital equipment, work with quality, manufacturing and engineering teams to reach agreement on the requirements of equipment.
Provide front-line manufacturing and procurement support of component qualification, instrument assembly, and system test;
Lead technical investigations to the root cause and triage the countermeasures for cost, quality and lead-time issues to the appropriate function.
Build process muscle to Improve cross-site communication, project/issue prioritization, and transparency of production issues that impact our products
Execute and approve design changes to support production and overall product quality
The essential requirements of the job include:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (ME, EE or SE), with 5+ years of proven product development, VAVE, and sustainment experience or a master’s degree with 3+ years of experience.
Work experience should include cross-functional process development and project management experience with excellent written and spoken communication skills.
Work autonomously, representing R&D onsite in Miami with the ability to travel (domestic and internationally) up to 10% of the time.
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
Experience in medical device or other regulated design control systems
Document/Design Change management via PLM/PDM systems (SolidWorks and Enovia preferred)
Project planning and estimating that considers cross-functional and cross-site efforts.
Understanding of Danaher Business System/Lean/Kaizen/Value Stream Mapping/Design Change
Participation in Visual Project Management and Daily Management
Sustaining product compliance to EMC, PEC, and other regulatory requirements (IVDR, RoHS, etc)
