Our Biologics Program is focused on Cell Line Development for therapeutic or diagnostics antibody production and Synthetic Biology. Molecular Devices has a leadership position in several technologies in Cell Line Development including clone selection, imaging and antibody characterization. As part of Danaher, our team works together with teams at Beckman Coulter Life Sciences and Pall. The position is part of the team responsible for the Molecular Devices Program for Cell Line Development and Synthetic Biology. The candidate is a member of a R&D team and works with customers to define solutions that give Molecular Devices a unique position in this market.

The candidate for Chief Engineer position for will be responsible for communicating with cross-functional teams to identify requirement gaps in order to define and prototype new products to meet customer requirements. The successful candidate must show evidence of problem solving skills as well as keen analytical abilities, they must have strong leadership qualities, as well as excellent communication skills. A strong technical understanding of the components and subsystem’s used with Life Sciences instrumentation, including digital cameras (and other optical detectors), optical design, CAD, mechanical stages, electronics and signal processing. The right candidate can drive product development to further grow the position of Molecular Devices in this market. Skills and Specifications * Ability to work with engineers, product management and scientists to understand, define and prototype solutions * Ability to supervise, mentor and educate others on the team. * Evaluate new technologies, and provide a technical point of view for feasibility * Work with cross functional teams to identify gaps, based on VOC, in customer workflow and develop technical roadmaps for future innovations that solves customer challenges better than any competitors. * Effectively communicates (verbal and written) new insight and ideas with cross-functional team * Efficiently works under pressure and deadlines, and works to complete assigned tasks on time and on budget. * Understanding and evaluation of new technologies, and provide a technical point of view for feasibility * Ability to work within the Danaher Business Systems approach to development

Requirements * Advanced degree (Bachelor of Science degree minimum, PhD preferred) in relevant field (e.g. Engineering, Physics, Optics ). Experience in Life Sciences, Biology, Microbiology a bonus. * Prefer 5 years’ experience in design and prototyping of instrumentation. * Ability to transfer final designs to manufacturing, including activities such as packaging, transportation/shipping requirements, standards testing and QC testing requirements * Proven ability to demonstrate innovation within an R&D environment leading to the development of new break-through products and features. * Ability to understand, develop and trouble shoot complex instrumentation and system designs. This will involve the understanding of optic, electrical, mechanical and firmware subsystem’s and how they interact and integrate together in final functional form. * Ability to author and present complex data to engineering, marketing, scientists and management
