About the role

ChemTreat’s Director of Environment, Health and Safety will help us handle and reduce risk while demonstrating the same can-do, innovative thinking that permeates our culture. This leader will be responsible for all EHS critical metrics and objectives related to current and potential customers. The successful candidate will be effective in front of the customer, assisting our distributed sales and service force, working with our suppliers and supporting our manufacturing sites!

The Director of EHS will oversee 5-8 subordinates who directly coordinate the EHS program and is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of EHS personnel. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Responsibilities

  • Develops, implements, and leads all, EHS programs and policies to ensure compliance with established ChemTreat and Danaher Corporation, Federal, State, and local regulations /policies

  • Establish and achieve goals based on gap analysis of department or plant EHS performance; prioritize issues and projects to achieve EHS compliance

  • Establish and supervise department budget and expenditures to meet the financial goals of the department

  • Stay current on regulatory issues/trends through seminars, networking, industry group participation; advise management on potential impact of proposed legislation; develop plans; arrange funding to stay in compliance with new regulations and risk management practices

  • Ensure adequate and appropriate safety, environmental, and regulatory training for ChemTreat associates. Develop training programs, secure outside training as vital, select/recommend sources for training aids and materials as needed.

  • Handle reporting of all incidents and ensure effective corrective measures are implemented and sustained. Lead all aspects of associated EHS statistics and recordkeeping requirements.

  • Meet and collaborate with local, state, federal authorities and trade organizations on regulatory matters to ensure the plant operates under the appropriate air, water, and hazardous waste permits.

  • Manage Workers' Compensation program and Injury Management

  • Run Property Risk Insurance program

  • Leads the development of company-wide, multi-year EHS strategies to provide program direction for associates and steering committees which deliver on continuous EHS performance

  • Lead waste, water and energy reduction efforts through Danaher Business System tools and realize absolute reductions.

  • Lead ISO 14001 and familiarity with ISO 45001 programs

Supplemental responsibilities

  • Provides leadership in risk assessment, change management and business continuity planning

  • Surveys, compiles, analyzes data, and recommends control measures relating to occupational and health issues such as chemical exposure, radiation, smoke, fumes, temperatures, dust, vapors, mists, gases, solvents, noise, lighting, and ergonomics

  • Performs field and safety measurements, waste and hazardous waste, safety evaluations and EHS program audits

  • Establishes and monitors key performance metrics and other relevant metrics to ensure continuous improvement

  • Lead EHS team and assist in development of EHS associates

Are you qualified?

  • In-depth knowledge of Environment, Safety, Health and Sustainability requirements and practices

  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and principles

  • Pro-active critical thinking and creative problem-solving skills

  • Experience working in a LEAN or continual improvement environment and ability to apply continual improvement concepts to EHS excellence.

  • Leadership skills

  • Project Management skills

  • Customer-service mentality

  • Excellent oral & written communication skills, including the ability to present information to a diverse audience

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications

  • Bachelor's degree (B.S.) from an accredited college or university Master’s Degree in EHS subject area or MBA, and experience in Chemical fields or CPG manufacturing preferred

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH) or other EHS related certification preferred.

  • 10 years EHS experience with 5 years’ direct supervisory experience

  • International experience preferred

  • Experience managing Field Sales and fleet safety programs ideal

  • Willingness to travel up to 50% – international travel required
