We are seeking a Buyer/Planner that reports directly to the Materials Manager. This role supports daily production operations by securing an optimum supply of material required for manufacturing to meet daily customer demand. The primary job responsibilities are to utilize and monitor material planning procedures with minimal inventory investment. These procedures involve direct contact with outside suppliers, transportation carriers, Customer Service, Engineering, Marketing, and Operation staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities: •Utilize and monitor material planning procedures ensuring consistent quality, delivery, and cost with minimal inventory investment. •Direct contact with outside suppliers, transportation carriers, customer service, and operations staffs to meet/exceed current and projected customer requirements, assuring material availability and optimal inventory levels. •Conduct DMP activities in cells improving parts presentation, kanban execution and material flow. •Forecast monthly material requirements to vendors to ensure material availability, based on historical data and PSI demand. •Identify and manage actual and potential material availability problems. •Root Cause / Corrective Actions to short term and permanent solutions to material supply issues. •Suggest and implement appropriate procurement method (JIT, Reorder Point, Consignment, Reducing Lead-times, or Scheduled Releases) based on part characteristics, supplier, and demand to optimize material velocity and availability. •Contributes, in the capacity of a team member, individually, or as a reference, to resolving materials quality issues and increasing manufacturing productivity. •Frequently participate in, and lead continuous improvement workshops (kaizens) with team members to improve quality, delivery, and productivity. •Achieve department performance goals (ie. On Time Delivery, Inventory Turns, Inventory Accuracy) •Assist in cost reduction projects and implementation of new product/engineering changes. •Kanban Management including: creation, maintenance, audits, and presentation.
Qualifications Include: •Bachelor’s Degree in Business or Engineering, or equivalent discipline •3-5 years of purchasing/sourcing experience •Lean manufacturing experience including kanban planning, establishing reorder quantities, inventory optimization, and a strong process orientation •Results driven and possess excellent organization, communication (written and oral), and presentation skills •Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint, performing queries in ERP systems (Business Objects), along with data gathering, manipulation, and analysis expertise Ability to perform all essential job functions.
