Danaher Corporation Senior Reliability Engineer in Hoegaarden, Belgium

Position Objective:

The R&D team develops products and systems to be used in the Biotech industry, which may include hardware, control systems and disposable products associated with our portfolio of bio-containers, mixers, bioreactors and supporting devices such as sterile connectors.

The purpose of this role is to work very closely with R&D and Manufacturing teams to drive product reliability from the initial design stages through to full manufacturing transfer, product launch and early sales. The role will also support reliability improvement initiatives for legacy products when required.

Responsibilities and Accountabilities:

  • Develop technical understanding of products within the R&D portfolio

  • Work within R&D teams to assist in developing highly reliable products through application and development of Danaher reliability tools (e.g. Failure Mode, Effects & Criticality Analysis, structured problem solving, reliability modeling and prediction, etc.)

  • Mentor and coach team as needed.

  • Run and participate in design risk assessments (internally and with key suppliers)

  • Act as “mini” project manager of project reliability swim lane, responsible for reliability within project, within wider new product development project managed by Project Manager

  • Manage SFMEA/DFMEA and Reliability Plans/Targets in New Product Development projects as sole reliability expert with a high level of autonomy

  • Work with Product Management in defining reliability targets and with customers for expectations on reliability

  • Develop an understanding of the level of reliability that is required through voice of the customer activity and / or benchmarking competition

  • Develop and implement test plans (representative of end-user applications) to reduce reliability risks of systems and components

  • Use root cause / corrective action skills to correct reliability problems

  • Participate in process mapping and production readiness reviews, both internally and with suppliers

  • Feed-back any lessons learnt into new product designs

  • Assist in reliability evaluation of new technologies, new parts

  • Leverage knowledge from a variety of sources (e.g. field experience, test, modeling) to predict system reliability

  • Perform and support supplier technical audits and assess reliability of bought-in components

  • Support transfer of new products from R&D to manufacturing

  • Communicate with service, quality, manufacturing, and others to ensure reliability priorities are addressed

  • Work cross-functionally to address customer complaints on fielded product

  • Participate in change management and life cycle management activities

Qualifications / Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree or HND/C in engineering (mechanical, electrical or design) or equivalent science discipline (e.g. engineering experience and training such as Mechanical Engineering Apprenticeship, ONC/HNC)

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant professional experience, preferably as a reliability engineer or role with relevant technical experience in new product development /new product introduction/manufacturing

  • Knowledge of automated equipment and/or plastic components design an advantage

Position Competencies:

  • Strong technical problem-solving skills with ability to solve complex problems

  • Structured problem solving (e.g. lean sigma)

  • Be solution driven with strong sense of urgency

  • Keen interest in science/technology and a desire to completely understand products

  • Fluency in written and spoken English (company language)

  • Very good reporting skills (written and spoken), adjusted to your audience

  • Mentoring and supporting colleagues

  • Be autonomous whilst also being a team player

  • To be comfortable working with ambiguity and uncertainty particularly in early stages of projects

  • Willingness to occasionally travel to visit other Pall sites, suppliers and customers.

In addition, the following are assets

  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements in the pharmaceutical industry (e.g. GMP, GAMP, etc.)

  • Knowledge of process, equipment and component validation

  • Experience of continuous improvement initiatives
