Danaher Corporation Corporate Sustainability Leader in Indianapolis, Indiana

Leica Biosystems (LBS) has an exciting new opportunity for a Corporate Sustainability Leader to join our team. This new position is responsible for helping to create, lead, and execute the LBS global sustainability strategy across the LBS organization in coordination with the LBS Corporate EHS and Danaher (DHR) EHS functions. This position will interact with all levels within the organization as it delivers against the annual DHR sustainability goals.

The position provides leadership and coordinates with multiple partners and departments within LBS.

The Corporate Sustainability Leader must be seen as a collaborator and can oversee and prioritize multiple projects with limited supervision. The qualified candidate will have a strong desire to learn and grow and be successful in driving the Leica Biosystems and Mammotome’s Sustainability initiatives using Danaher Business System (DBS) tools with energy and passion.

This position reports to the Global Director EHS based in Buffalo Grove, IL.

This new role will help to support the EHS sustainability process development across the global Leica Biosystem /Mammotome organization.

  • Lead a company-wide effort by developing & implementing the global LBS sustainability strategy in line with Danaher's sustainability goals and objectives.

  • Develop this functional area from the ground up, lead implementation, and execution of LBS’ sustainability efforts in coordination with Corporate EHS.

  • Work with Corporate EHS and LBS executives to establish an LBS approach to sustainability.

  • Develop and implement LBS’ approach to sustainability policies, practices, and associated standard work.

  • Lead implementation of program initiatives to meet or exceed Danaher 5-year sustainability goals around energy and waste reduction.

  • Gain, analyze, and supervise site sustainability data, provide trend reports, and present recommendations utilizing the required DHR online reporting tools.

  • Contribute to the LBS reporting framework by using spreadsheets, dashboards, and other reporting tools.

  • Prepare presentations, as requested, for various functions on sustainability initiative progress.

  • Establish the concept of a “Green Council” and site-level” Green Teams” to help to drive, integrate, and educate on new sustainability processes.

  • Lead and guide mentoring LBS Green Team Champions/members at the site level.

  • Provide resources to guide sustainability improvement projects with LBS operations that have a direct impact on GHG reduction, energy efficiency, waste reduction, and water conservation and Danaher goals.

  • Work collaboratively with LBS Corporate and Danaher EHS on sustainability metrics and initiatives.

  • Partner with LBS Sales and Marketing departments to update the company website as it pertains to sustainability initiatives and complete vendor sustainability questionnaires.

  • Serve as an author/storyteller of internal success stories related to LBS standard methodologies in sustainability.

  • Produce a monthly activity report/bowler that will be distributed to the key internal customers in coordination with Corporate EHS.

  • Advises, coaches, and supports facilities, operations, and EHS teams in identifying, scoping, and implementing energy savings and sustainability improvements using DBS energy/waste tools and kaizen.

  • Identifies Federal, State, and local jurisdiction incentives to drive fiscally-positive facilities initiatives.

  • As a member of the LBS EHS team, support other Corporate EHS initiatives, as assigned. He/she may have downtime or a situation may arise that will require a shift in EHS staffing and resources.


  • Bachelor's degree (BS/BA) with a focus in Environmental Management & Sustainability, Occupational Safety & Health Management, Industrial Hygiene, or other related science/engineering degree (required).

Experience (preferred)

  • 5-7 years EHS and/or sustainability program development & implementation

  • 3+ years' experience leading energy and water reduction, recycling, reuse, and waste management projects.

  • 3+ years' experience driving projects and leading data using lean and six sigma tools such as problem-solving, value stream mapping, and kaizen events.

  • Strong Microsoft Office skills – Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams, etc.

  • Biased toward action with excellent time leadership skills with an ability to understand key achievements, goals, and objectives while leading groups of internal and external resources to meet project goals.

  • Demonstrated ability and willingness to adjust and adapt to changing conditions.

  • Ability to influence across functions and levels within the organization.


  • English - strong written, speaking, and presentation proficiency (required)

Certifications – Preferred (one or more equivalent or eligible to sit for the exam)

  • Certified Safety Professional (CSP)

  • Certified Energy Manager (CEM)

  • Project Management Professional (PMP)

  • Master Black Belt, 6 Sigma, Problem Solving, Value Stream Mapping, LEAN OpEx

Travel (required estimated % of the time)

  • <25% domestic and global

  • Must be able to travel internationally
