As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer in R&D, you will help us grow the capability of our product development team in Indianapolis. Your initial focus will be in sample separation-based systems for life science research with opportunity to design and develop products across our broad Life Sciences platform in the future.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for the development and maintenance of projects though product conception, definition, design, documentation, release to production, and sustainment.

  • Serves as a point lead for relevant product development responsibilities assigned.

  • Works across engineering fields to define product architectures and ensure consistency of common technologies.

  • Creates design concepts and/or provides review feedback to engineering for new consumables based on user needs from external customers.

  • Develops component and system tests to validate performance of mechanical components which demonstrate manufacturability, compliance with CE EMC, and environmental stress.

  • Maintains existing products as required to meet safety, reliability, and customer expectations.

  • Organizes and actively participates in design reviews and project reviews.

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or Biomedical Engineering

  • 5+ years of experience designing and developing products.

  • Proven experience in plastic consumables design and manufacturing required

  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills inclusive of tolerance analysis.

  • Strong CAD (SolidWorks), GD&T, Automated testing, and documentation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Familiar with ISO quality systems related to design control and product release requirements and audits.

  • FEA experience preferred

  • Experience working with injection molding, injection and extrusion blow molding, roto-molding, thermoforming, Liquid Silicone Rubber molding, castings, and structural foam molding are desirable.

  • Knowledge of ASME dimensioning and tolerance standards.

  • Mechanical design, modeling, performance analysis, and tradeoff analysis.

  • Materials and component selection for reliability and chemical compatibility.

  • Any experience with hands-on machining and bench fabrication a plus.

  • Rapid 3D prototyping experience is a plus.
