Beckman Coulter, Inc. is one of the foremost developers of automation software, robotics, and equipment for laboratory environments worldwide. We are currently searching for a Software Development Engineer for the Access Solutions Group in Indianapolis, Indiana or San Jose, California.
The Software Development Engineer participates in defining, implementing and maintaining software products that meet functional specifications to target due dates.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
Design and create the software to meet the customer need
Collect, interpret and document software requirements
Participate on multi-functional product research and development teams, product and/or system design reviews
Estimating and quoting custom work for customers
We are looking for a developer to work in our custom laboratory automation development team developing software products and/or instrument device interfaces. The work of Access Solutions is that of a custom engineering group, working with multiple customers at a time, to develop software to meet the customer need. Our custom integrations are added on to the Beckman Coulter Automated Liquid Handler (Biomek platform) or the Acoustic Liquid Handler (Echo platform). Our standard project is integrating a third-party device and controlling it from the Beckman scheduling software to be used as part of a larger method or experiment.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
Strong written and verbal communication skills for interaction with engineering team, technical support personnel and customers
Demonstrated strong teamwork skills
Must possess a focused urgency and willingness to manage multiple short and moderate duration projects simultaneously
Experience with Windows applications in Microsoft Visual Studio or similar development environments
Some experience with C# and the .NET Framework (or Java)
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
C++, COM, Microsoft SQL and database technology
Willingness to travel and assist or train customers at site of development
Working with agile development process
Understanding of functional language programming (e.g. Scheme, F#)
Controlling physical instrumentation from software
Quoting software development effort based on input requirements
Managing technical support tasks including gathering of diagnostic information
