ESSENTIAL JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Ensure department coordination with tooling, processing, production, quality, facilities, and other multi-functional team members to maintain compliance and maximize operational performance, quality, and availability.
Relentlessly drive a continuous improvement culture. Lead Kaizen activities to streamline manufacturing and qualification processes to improve safety, quality, delivery, and cost through data driven methodologies
Drive varied troubleshooting of manufacturing issues (e.g., mold vs. process vs. press vs. material vs. metrology)
Supervise the creation and facilitation of multi-departmental SOP’s and Work Instructions; Provide multi-functional training so others are complaint.
Lead department engineers, technicians, and associates to execute mold component and manufacturing work-cell replacements, repairs, and re-qualifications to sustain production.
Work with vendors and corporate engineers to resolve design for manufacture (DFM) issues.
Utilize and allocates available resources, delegate tasks, assign priorities and lead the team to ensure project success.
Ensures team completes tasks that support manufacturing operations, such as performing historical data analysis, design, documentation, implementation, and validation of equipment and process changes.
Ensure proper feedback is provided to tooling and the tool component manufacturers with regards to quality concerns. Communicate and document lessons learned so challenges are not repeated.
Supervise verification of effectiveness, by way of trials and testing of various improvement activities.
Supervise tool health and status reports are updated and communicated to partner departments. Oversee and/or review work orders for tool component modifications.
Time Management of all Projects.
Manage the team’s ADP timekeeping.
Lead site troubleshooting and improvement activities including Kaizen, problem-solving, and CAPA projects.
Acts as liaison with engineering development in releasing new system platforms (NPI) and works closely with quality groups to ensure strict compliance with good engineering practices (GEP), good manufacturing practices [GMP], good documentation practices [GDP], and QSR guidelines.
Determine staff requirements for Manufacturing Engineering Department
Develop job descriptions and requisitions for new personnel positions
Perform performance evaluations and determine salary levels
Execute Employee disciplinary actions
Finish the assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time.
Responsible for ensuring team members are up to date on required training.
Education or Experience (in years):
BS in Mechanical, Plastics, or Manufacturing Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience to perform at this level.
7+ years of experience in ISO/FDA regulated manufacturing environments (ISO13485 preferred)
5+ years in a high-volume injection molding environment (tool/machine specifications, process development, automation, quality systems, etc.)
Experience with precision measuring instruments (CMM, Projector, Calipers, Indicators)
Experience with IQ/OQ/PQ qualification activities
Experience with injection mold component and work-cell design, repair, and modifications.
Knowledge and skills:
Proficient understanding of mathematics and statistical operations, including Statistical Process Control and Design of Experiments (DOE) methodologies.
In-depth knowledge of material properties, molding process development, and tooling design.
Knowledge of scientific injection molding principles (RJG or similar experience preferred)
Thorough knowledge and proficiency with Lean principles and continuous improvement tools including Kaizen, Problem Solving, Daily Management, 5S, Layered Audits, SMED, and Kanban.
Possess a successful track record of managing technical staff, demonstrated leadership and teamwork skills, and is highly results and goal oriented.
Demonstrated high flexibility to adapt to changing business environments and effective at handling multiple projects simultaneously and in a timely manner.
Knowledge of CAD software. (SolidWorks)
Ability to understand part drawings and specifications. Competent in GD&T, specifically in translating requirements into measurements and assessing results.
Proficient in statistical software (Minitab preferred)
Solid understanding of GMP, ISO, and FDA rules and regulatory requirements.
Familiar with the operation of Nissei Injection Machines
Very Proficiency in MS Office software. (e.g., Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)
Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to articulate difficult and/or critical information; works to build consensus.
Good organization and documentation skills. Have strong attention to detail
- Must be able to lift 25 lbs, stand, and coach for several hours.
