Danaher Corporation R&D Molding Equipment & Service Technician in Lodi, California



The R&D Molding Equipment & Technician will be responsible for performing basic troubleshooting, maintenance, and support of the machining and injection molding equipment, environmental control systems and relevant duties as assigned in support of R&D injection-molding and tooling projects as part of the Cepheid Innovation & Technology team. Responsibilities include installation, implementation, systems troubleshooting, tracking and reporting of both simple and complex injection-molding, machining, and test & measurement equipment. This role, reporting to the Sr. Manager of R&D Molding, will also be responsible for working with production and manufacturing facilities teams to address larger, broader facilities needs for the R&D team.


  • Serves as department information resource to assist Facilities management and End Users with Facilities Systems and basic machine maintenance per schedule.

  • Performs assigned basic preventative maintenance activities in a timely and safe manner with proper observance of equipment operational schedules and approved SOP’s

  • Performs basic facility projects as directed and assists with more technical projects as needed

  • Performs and/or participates in daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, semi-annual and annual equipment, building and regulatory inspections as required

  • Performs assigned basic machine/equipment repairs in a timely and safe manner utilizing proper PPE, tools, equipment and parts

  • Determines root cause of systems failure, takes corrective action when required and provide recommendation for improvements

  • Works proactively and independently and also in close collaboration with R&D, Facilities, IT, Production, and Quality departments.

  • Corrects and resolves issues/problems in processes with the help of existing procedures, standards and processes.

  • Experience with using tools such as calipers, micrometers and refractometers as well as hand-held tools.

  • Apply company policies and procedures to complete assignments

  • Understands and adheres to safety policies and practices

  • Willingness to contribute to machine shop and molding work as time and training allows.

  • Shipping and receiving duties for the R&D team


  • Complete all assigned and required training satisfactorily and on time

  • Willingness to be trained for other duties within the R&D molding team that may be suitable given the workload.

  • Willing and able to be trained on SAP software to log goods receipts as items arrive into the R&D team


Education and Experience (in years):

  • High School diploma (or equivalent experience) with 2-4 years of related work experience.

Knowledge and skills:

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with manufacturing equipment and safety procedures

  • Analytical and troubleshooting skills; ability to think creatively

  • Knowledge of Environmental Monitoring systems as it relates to manufacturing environments is a plus

  • Demonstrated working knowledge of industrial maintenance or computer-integrated manufacturing

  • Excellent workmanship standards are essential

  • Recognizes and solves typical problems that can occur in own work area without supervisory approval

  • Excellent interpersonal, verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to clearly and effectively communicate with peers, supervisors, manufacturing engineers, stockroom managers and leads.

  • Ability to read and understand written work instructions

  • Ability to pay close attention to detail.

  • Basic Computer Skills

Physical requirements/abilities:

  • Must be able to lift 25 lbs. Must be able to stand for several hours. Work may involve repetitive arm/wrist motions

  • Ability and willingness to travel to and from work assignments

  • Ability to climb ladders and work above ceilings.
