Danaher Corporation Director Environmental Remediation in Los Angeles, California

Position Summary

The Director, Environmental Remediation will partner with internal and external stakeholders to manage risk and liabilities within the Danaher portfolio. This individual will be responsible to ensure existing legacies are properly managed as well as working to minimize future risk to Danaher properties and interests.

This role requires technical subject matter expertise and strong project management knowledge and experience coupled with leadership and foresight to advise Danaher and Operating Company (OpCo) leadership on the current remediation landscape, management strategies to minimize risks, and clearly articulate the environmental and community impacts of business decisions and growth to leadership & stakeholders.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Directly responsible for managing Danaher’s global remediation liabilities portfolio as single point of contact. Serve as program manager managing issues related to remedial liabilities arising from historical operations and acquisitions; managing ongoing remediation sites and projects; advising on regulatory and enforcement matters at state, federal, and international levels; and assisting in the selection and management of external project managers, outside counsel and other vendors

  • Works closely with environmental consultants, Danaher environmental council, and outside environmental council to manage risks and provide advice on project deliverables and timelines for full scale remediation projects

  • Responsible for managing and advising on the development of remediation financial reserves and guarantees and working closely with finance, legal, and other teams to appropriately manage remediation risks and related compliance obligations

  • Works closely with and advises Danaher and OpCo corporate communications teams regarding environmental risk and remediation matters including those with local communities, associates, customers, and shareholders

  • Manages activities associated with US Superfund and other country equivalent environmental liability government programs. Works closely with country environmental agencies including the US EPA, State/Region, and local municipalities, and communities on remediation and prevention activities

  • Leads Environmental Site Assessment strategy and programs and as necessary other multi-media investigations

  • Actively coordinates third party risk assessments and represents and articulates environmental risk for Merger, Acquisition, and Divestiture activities for all Danaher Operating Companies

  • Participates with Global EHS and other partners on committees and special assignments related to remediation

  • Monitors pending & horizon environmental legislation and assist operating companies in understanding and complying with federal, state, and local environmental regulations to prevent adverse environmental impacts

  • Uses Danaher Business System tools to identify problems and opportunities, track and report on Key Performance Indicators to drive accountability and performance measurement for global remediation activities

  • Supports OpCo platform sustainability councils, committees, and task force efforts related to remediation risks


  • Ability to read, understand, compile, and generate executive summary recommendations regarding complex environmental reports including third party environmental assessments and reports, geologic plume modeling, compliance plans, closure plans, government assessment reports, brownfield reports, and reports or material generated by outside organizations or interveners

  • Solid understanding of current, horizon and innovative environmental remediation treatment technologies including groundwater, wetlands, soil, flora and fauna management and associated air emissions

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of environmental engineering and site remediation

  • Strong organizational agility to enhance cross-functional communication and collaboration

  • Ability to perform research work, make mathematical computations and provide comprehensive and innovative recommendations on environmental engineering & geology challenges

  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with all levels of the Danaher organization and with OpCo and platform leadership

  • Computer literacy and ability to manipulate and develop spreadsheets, help design or improve databases, and other enterprise environmental management systems and tools

  • Strong ability to self-direct work with broad guidance and input from management and stakeholders

Education and/or Experience

  • BS degree in Chemical, Civil, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Management, or related science with 15 years of professional experience including 8+ years of leadership experience managing remediation projects and environmental activities to conserve natural resources; working in an environmental management system; or an environmental regulatory compliance assurance function.

  • MBA / Advanced technical degree a plus

  • Knowledge of US federal and state laws and regulations pertaining to environmental issues, including CAA, CWA, FIFRA, CERCLA, RCRA

Language Skills

English fluency required. Additional language skills are beneficial.
