We’re currently seeking a S enio r Research Scientist to join a rapidly growing team to innovate and advance separation sciences in the field of biologics (mRNA, gene therapy, oligonucleotides, mAbs , nucleic acids, proteins, etc ). Th is position is a unique opportunity for a talented scientist to dissect and understand the separation problems facing analytical biochemists in characterizing and quantifying emerging modalities for Gene Therapy and mRNA therapeutic development along with antibody/protein and other related functions.
This role will be temporarily located in Mansfield, MA until our permanent lab in Cambridge, MA opens. Our scientists work in a hybrid model going into the lab a few days weekly and working remotely from their home office a few days.
Duties and responsibilities:
Study and understand analytical separation needs and problems within rapidly growing and/or strategic areas of Gene and mRNA Therapeutics, including sample preparation and handling needs.
Drive and support the development of novel, scalable, and competitive new applications/methods, products, and technologies to meet new bioseparation demands, including benchmarking, evaluation methods, and critical applications in the Emerging modalities space including gene- and mRNA-based therapeutics.
Develop and interact with advisory groups of customers and industry partners to facilitate new method and product development in this Emerging modalities space including gene- and mRNA-based therapies.
Work with R&D, Sales and Marketing to launch and promote new methods and products to the scientific community.
Provide support to Marketing on brochure, web, technical and seminar content.
Supervise Technicians and Staff Scientists, and assign/manage work as necessary.
Travel as required (15%) to meet program goals.
Additional Basic Duties:
Develop HPLC, nano- & micro-LC and SPE methods and applications
Support and provide feedback for the research and product development process
Support the QC process as needed
Support, develop, troubleshoot and improve methods for key customers
Support Marketing/Sales to produce relevant literature, application notes, brochures, etc.
Develop and present technical posters/presentations to the scientific community
Develop and present training seminars for customers, salespeople and tradeshows
PhD in biochemistry or related field with min. 10 years with analytical biochemistry of antibodies and proteins.
4-5 years’ experience in LC/MS of nucleic acids including mRNA, DNA, AAVs, proteins and biomolecules in the Gene- and mRNA-based therapeutic space required
Demonstrated theoretical knowledge of bio-separations technology and applications
Key Skills & Attributes:
An aptitude for modification of equipment or instruments to meet study goals.
Excellent working knowledge of current instrumentation, robotics, and automation is desired.
Strong ability to think “outside the box” and apply your skills creatively to solve real-world chromatographic method/application problems
Experience in managing or supervising staff researchers and technicians
Demonstrated ability to effectively plan, execute and manage multiple complex projects
Outgoing personality with excellent English and presentation skills, and a love for working closely with customers
Fluency in a foreign language is a plus.
