The Senior Scientist, Upstream BioManufacturing has a strong working knowledge of microbial systems, bacterial metabolism, protein expression and current bioprocessing technologies. This individual must possess a proven track record of working in a microbial fermentation lab/pilot scale and have the ability to develop and write standard operating procedures. This role requires a critical thinker with a continuous improvement mind-set and the ability to operate and troubleshoot fermentor operations. The Senior Scientist, US BioMFG is primarily responsible for the execution of 1-L to 1000-L scale microbial fermentations. This position requires excellent laboratory skills, great attention to detail and excellent documentation practices.
Lead the execution, partnering with team members, of 1 L – 1000 L scale fermentations within manufacturing setting.
Actively engage with personnel from Process Development and Process Engineering to improve process robustness and performance.
Execute project plans according to all specifications, including timeline and budget
Create/modify SOPs and Batch Record forms for fermentation processes
Assist Process Engineers in the technical transfer of fermentation processes from research grade to the GMP manufacturing team
Perform within ISO regulated environment
Has extensive, hands-on experience with microbial fermentation methods within a Manufacturing environment.
Operating bench-top, lab-, and pilot-scale bioreactors
Batch and fed-batch fermentation processes
Utilizing large scale harvest equipment (e.g.- continuous flow centrifugation)
Experience with microbial fermentation to express recombinant proteins
Experience working within a Quality Management System, familiarity with ISO certified labs and GMP working environments a plus
Previous experience with St. steel bioreactors is a plus
Degree in biology, molecular biology, biochemistry, chemistry or a closely related field
Bachelor’s degree and 10+ years of relevant work experience (in Manufacturing)
Master’s degree and 6+ years of relevant work experience (in Manufacturing)
Ph.D and 2+ years of relevant work experience (in Manufacturing)
