What you’ll do
The Cytiva Upstream Bioprocess R&D team is seeking an individual with experience in Bioprocess applications and/or mechanical engineering. The individual supports R&D’s Product Development with prototyping, testing and verification and validation of prototypes, components and products. This role requires mechanical and technical aptitude, fundamental understanding of mechanical systems and testing, and ability to establish processes to assemble and test the components and products safely in a cross-functional environment.
Develop verification and validation plans using statistical methods (e.g. DOE) based on a deep understanding and functional experience with single-use upstream unit operations. Procure materials, build working samples, and test prototypes/products for use in the biopharmaceutical industry (e.g. Xcellerex bioreactors, mixers, single-use consumable bag/impellers, fluid transfer assemblies).
Work collaboratively with R&D design teams to provide constructive input on equipment performance, usability and adherence to product requirements. Technical point of contact for new product development and life cycle engineering teams for voice of customer input (cell culture processing, mixing applications, process transfer and scale-up).
Lead and mentor project teams of junior scientists/engineers in the development and execution of engineering characterization of single-use bioprocess equipment. Collaborate and provide technical leadership on the generation of new product requirements definition, application notes, publications and presentations.
Engage with customers directly and support internal teams regarding technical inquires and customer-driven collaborations. Translate end-user requirements and customer feedback into new product or existing product improvement opportunities.
Maintain knowledge of current trends in bioprocessing and how it relates to the Cytiva product portfolio. Maintain a working knowledge of competitors and competing products/technologies.
Who you are
Bachelor’s degree in either: Chemical Engineering, Bioengineering, Biomedical Engineering, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Biology or related technical field.
Minimum 5 years’ experience working in the Bioprocessing or related industry.
Functional experience with single-use and multi-use bioprocess upstream unit operations. Awareness of cGMP, commercial mAb, process development and scale-up. Experience with medical device design controls is desired.
Strong interpersonal skills required to work in a cross functional team that interacts across multiple departments, such as Product Management, Project Management, Manufacturing, Field Service, QA/RA and Sourcing. Excellent technical report writing skills.
Proficiency with DOE (design of experiments), ANOVA, ALT (accelerated life testing) and general statistical analysis methods.
