What you’ll do

The Facilities and Engineering Leader is responsible for managing the Facilities and Engineering Operations for our Central MA sites, these include manufacturing production and warehouse focus locations. This role supports both manufacturing and non-manufacturing buildings in the Worcester County region for Cytiva (Westborough, Southborough, Shrewsbury, and Marlborough).

You will be responsible for ensuring all facilities, utilities, equipment, and systems are designed and maintained to consistently deliver optimal performance and reliability to site operations.

As a member of the Global Supply Chain site leadership team, reporting to the Plant Leader, you will work with key business functions at the site and at corporate to define and drive the business strategy for our existing and future sites.

You will ensure a safe, stimulating, and socially responsible working environment to meet industry best practices for overall employee experience as well as alignment with the organizations future of work efforts.

The Facilities and Engineering Leader will lead a team consisting of several departments including Facilities Maintenance, Utilities Engineering, Reliability, and Capital Projects.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Develop and manage an engineering and maintenance strategy that enables the site to meet and exceed short and long-term operational goals.

  • Lead a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within the team and the site. Leverage the Danaher Business System (DBS) through a disciplined approach to develop & implement the strategy aligned with the right tools (PPG, Hoshin Kanri Methodology) and cross functional engagement.

  • Oversee and lead site maintenance, engineering, reliability, and facilities operations.

  • Oversee and maintain a strong relationship with the site’s key business partners and stakeholders to ensure goals are met and ensure a high level of internal and external customer satisfaction

  • Actively support EHS initiatives and ensure they tie into facilities and engineering initiatives. Champion 5-S and Human Operational Performance (HOP) objectives within the facilities and engineering scope. Ensure EHS goals and engagement are met by the facilities team.

  • Serve on the Crisis Management team and support the actions on the site Business Continuity plan for all scope pertinent to facilities.

  • Report on maintenance accomplishments in the work orders executed, both corrective and preventive actions, as well as improvement projects. Maintain a Tier 2 GEMBA board to make information and targets clear to those within and outside the facilities area.

  • Manage facilities capital projects and ensure facilities requirements are considered and integrated into new product development through phase gating and process transfer project plans.

  • Develop and manage a robust asset management program for the site’s infrastructure and assets. Including but not limited to Preventive Maintenance and Calibration programs with rigorous controls.

  • Planning and design for site building expansion and remodeling activities, lab builds and upgrades, capacity planning, space planning, engineering projects, building code compliance.

  • Champion the site’s asset management strategy, maintenance and reliability programs, capital projects and site strategic planning.

  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert (SME) regarding asset management, reliability, building infrastructure, energy management, and environmental sustainability systems.

  • Implement strategies to optimize cost and service levels related to utilities, plant maintenance, grounds management, janitorial, vendor management, expense management, and infrastructure project management.

  • Develop and execute facilities and environmental sustainability strategies for the site.

  • Responsible for the site’s adherence to our insurance carrier requirements.

  • Develop site-wide training and communication plans regarding facilities and engineering activities.

  • Support integration of engineering, facility management, EHS, and strategic sourcing through special projects as assigned.

  • Advises, coaches, and supports facilities team on their career development, while supporting the business and team with the proper pipeline development for the facilities area.

Who you are

  • You are a proven leader with the appropriate skills and experience, capable of leading our engineering and facilities operations to draw on synergies and continuously improve operational performance.

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field (e.g., Engineering, Facilities Management, Business) from an accredited college or university or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience. (MBA or an advanced degree in Facilities Management, Engineering or Project Management preferred)

  • Minimum of 10 years’ experience in a leadership role for a facilities, maintenance, or engineering department within a manufacturing facility (regulated environment preferred)

  • Experience leading a large team with a history of successfully coaching and developing of direct reports with excellent people leadership and change / transformational leadership skills.

  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and project management skills.

  • Proven experience leading large capital projects. Project Management Professional (PMP) certification is a plus.

  • Proven ability to establish and manage relationships at all levels of the organization, including the most senior levels.

  • Experience analyzing/reviewing sophisticated financial models and cost/benefit analysis with strong cost and risk management skills.

  • Excellent problem solver with a proven ability to generate innovative solutions to complex issues.

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills.

  • Expert level knowledge and experience in asset management and reliability engineering. Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL) is a plus.

  • Member of an industry recognized organization; Society for Maintenance and Reliability Professionals (SMRP), International Facility Management Association (IFMA), International Society for Pharmaceutical Engineering (ISPE).

  • Professional Certification: Certified Energy Manager (CEM), Project Management Professional (PMP), Leadership in Energy & Environmental Design Accredited Professional (LEED AP), Certified Facility Manager (CFM), Certified Maintenance and Reliability Professional (CMRP) or Certified Reliability Leader (CRL).
