The Role
This role is a junior or entry level position based in the Melbourne R&D centre and will work within a highly experienced and fast paced team developing a new medical instrument. We will provide support and training for technical skills but you will need to bring a passion for learning and productive work ethics.
As the Materials and Component Engineer, your main responsibility is to evaluate regulations and make recommendations for maintaining compliance with product environmental regulations specific to medical instruments (IVD in particular), materials and components.
Reporting to the Manager, Hardware Engineering, your key responsibilities will include, and not limited to:
Support changes to existing products and new product development and ensure compliance by:
completing thorough assessments;
completing the appropriate documentation pertaining to product material environmental compliance.
Provide guidance and input into the work of other cross-functional resources within product development, regulatory affairs and operations.
Be responsible for the product environmental compliance process, database and supplier relationships.
Manage product environmental compliance business process, including processes and procedures.
Provide guidance on material selection and compatibility during product development, reliability and obsolescence projects
Report observations/problems clearly and concisely and take appropriate actions.
Plan, conduct and execute technical analysis meetings, review progress and evaluate results.
Review environmental standards and regulations.
Conduct gap assessments to new and existing standards.
Support sourcing and selection of suppliers of OEM components and products, and liaising with those suppliers to ensure compliance documentation is available
Generating technical documents including design descriptions, test plans and reports.
Identify and pursue opportunities for development.
Qualifications required to be successful in this opportunity:
Graduate qualifications in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, Environmental Engineering or Regulatory Affairs with 0-2 years of experience. Alternatively, equivalent experience in related field.
Familiarity with mechanical, electronics and software systems and interactions
Capable to establish detailed actions plan based on high level milestones and work autonomously to drive to completion
Good understanding of project priorities. Adaptable to change between projects to support business needs
Excellent analytical skills and attention to detail
Positive, self-motivated disposition and personal accountability
Excellent interpersonal and communication and teamwork skills
Competent with MS Office
Preferred Capabilities
Experience in a highly regulated industry e.g. medical, defence shall be highly regarded
Experience with reliability engineering concepts
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to root cause highly complex problems
Strong interpersonal skills to communicate and collaborate effectively cross-functional and with management
Interest in Histology
