About Leica Biosystems

Leica Biosystems is a global leader in workflow solutions and automation for anatomical pathology (histology) to aid cancer diagnosis.

The Role

This role will work closely with our global architecture community as well as program and product managers to define and drive software solutions that integrate Leica Biosystems products with each other to enable harmonised workflows for our customers. The Solution Architect will build the bridge between business needs and technology.

Reporting to the Enterprise Solution Architect this role is within the Portfolio Solutions team which is responsible for driving interoperability and common solutions across the Leica Biosystems product portfolio. The Product Solution Architect (Interoperability) will develop and govern architectural, interface and process solutions for multiple interoperability initiatives which will enable connectivity of Leica Biosystems medical device product portfolio within the hospital and laboratory environment.

Your key responsibilities will include, and not limited to:

  • Architect interoperable solutions across a broad range of platforms and devices. Guiding the selection of tools, technologies, and standards to achieve interoperable outcomes through a consistent approach.

  • Translate business requirements and roadmaps to a solution architecture, appropriately described by design artefacts, including current state, transition and future state architectures.

  • Provide architectural direction, coaching and governance to software architects and development teams to continually mature our design practices.

  • Contribute to the development of business and technology roadmaps that enable our progression to future state diagnostic platforms.

  • Influence decision making with a broad range of business areas through the trade-off of needs, future opportunities, and constraints to enhance delivery of product roadmaps.

  • Identify points of integration, reusability and other interfaces between technical solutions across the product portfolio. Define critical interfaces between software systems.

  • Identify and implement proof of concepts to de-risk solution delivery and optimise delivery capabilities.

  • Initiate and lead discussions or workshops with key technical and product stakeholders to build and maintain key relationships across Leica Biosystems.

  • Contribute to product safety and security risk management activities.

  • Contribute to continuous improvement of Leica Biosystems’ architecture processes, methods and tools.

To be successful in this opportunity, a prior experience in the following criteria would be required:

  • Minimum 15 years of experience in software systems development.

  • Meaningful background in agile development of software solutions. Of particular interest will be those who have not only been involved in product development and delivery across the full SDLC but also held a range of leadership responsibilities.

  • An accomplished Solution Architect who has experience in defining effective architectures and underlying software designs for whole systems. You will have captured and communicated architectural artefacts using methods and notations such as TOGAF, Zachman, 4+1, C4 Model, UML, ArchiMate etc.

  • A thorough understanding of what it takes to deliver software efficiently and effectively. This will be reflected in your design decisions that address Functional Decomposition, Data Modelling, Design Patterns, Cybersecurity, CI/CD environments, Deployment, Sustainability and Maintainability.

  • A key differentiator will be your software development background across a range of platforms from cloud (Azure) to server (Windows .NET) and device / client (Linux, C++) environments.

  • Strong knowledge of software system integration technologies and API patterns.

  • You will be a highly effective communicator able to operate from the C-Suite to technical contributor level. You will be able to convey complex, technical ideas to a non-technical audience and be confident in leading technical discussions with architects, software developers and other technical stakeholders.

  • A proactive, flexible and pragmatic mindset with the ability to balance current and new architecture in the context of challenging business demands.

  • A motivated and driven professional in your field, motivated to make a difference and with the ability to work and take decisions with a high level of autonomy.

Highly Desirable capabilities:

  • Identity and Access Management (IAM) enabling integration between local and remote user directories.

  • Background in product development, i.e., delivering distributable software systems

  • In-depth and hands-on with security and privacy by design principles.

  • Systems development in a strong engineering environment e.g., medical device, aerospace, automotive.

Location:

This is a hybrid role with a majority work-from-home component. You’ll be working closely with teams in Melbourne, India, China, California and Germany. The Portfolio Solution team’s head office is located at 495 Blackburn Road Mount Waverley VIC 3149 Australia.

Travel: work days per annum - 5 days per annum international travel; 30 days per annum onsite in our Melbourne office.
